New Year Film Festival at Jinbocho Theater
As we step into 2026, what better way to begin the year than with a heartwarming selection of classic Japanese films at Jinbocho Theater? Located in the vibrant heart of Jimbocho, this cinema is renowned for showcasing timeless Japanese masterpieces. From January 4 to January 16, Jinbocho Theater presents a special program titled
“Laugh, Cry, and Celebrate! Classic Japanese Comedies”. This curated event promises to evoke emotions of laughter and nostalgia, perfect for welcoming the new year.
A Comedic Journey Through Japanese Cinema
The festival features a delightful assortment of films, including performances from legendary actors such as
Mori Shigemune, Franky Sakai, and
Amano Jun. Audiences can look forward to an array of comedies that brilliantly depict the essence of human emotions, filled with laughter and heartfelt moments. One highlighted film is
“Otoko wa Tsurai yo”, a beloved series ideal for families to enjoy over the New Year.
Additionally, the festival will feature a special segment dedicated to silent films, a hallmark tradition at Jinbocho Theater. Audiences will be enchanted by the live piano accompaniment and vocal performances. This year, two masterpieces by renowned director
Yasujiro Ozu will be showcased, providing a nostalgic experience for film aficionados. The esteemed
Raimoku Sakamoto, a popular benshi, will add life to the silent films with his storytelling skills.
