Experience the Essence of Living Alone at TOKYOROOMS Exhibition in Tokyo

Discovering Solitude: The TOKYOROOMS Exhibition

The city of Tokyo is about to transform into an enlightening space for those curious about the nuances of living alone. From April 18 to May 17, 2026, the exhibition titled "TOKYOROOMS" will showcase unique insights into single living at the TOKYO NODE, located in Toranomon Hills. Organized by Nittetsu Kowa Real Estate Co., Ltd., the event aims to present new perspectives through their research initiative, +ONE LIFE LAB.

The Aim of +ONE LIFE LAB

Founded with the mission to enhance the single living experience, +ONE LIFE LAB serves as a think tank exploring various aspects of solo lifestyles. The team engages in extensive research through internet surveys, workshops, and discussions, determining ways to provide practical solutions and insights for individuals living alone. One of their prominent features, the "FACT MAP," visualizes real data about single living across different age groups, presenting an engaging way to understand the evolving patterns of solitary lifestyles.

Recent studies indicate a duality in the experience of living alone, showcasing both the freedom it offers and the accompanying feelings of loneliness and uncertainty for the future. Common keywords such as "days off" and "not having anything to do" surfaced, revealing that many find themselves alone in their homes during these moments. Aimed at addressing these feelings, the exhibition seeks to foster connections among individuals living alone and encourage self-reflection.

Exhibition Theme: "You Are Not Alone, Living Alone"

Central to the exhibition is the theme "You Are Not Alone, Living Alone," which paints a realistic picture of the single living experience. The exhibition space, designed akin to a six-tatami room, starts with thoughts like:
  • - "It feels good to hear that living freely is valued, yet I can’t shake off feelings of anxiety and loneliness."
  • - "I have desires, but there are times when I feel lost. I don’t want to feel constrained by expectations."

This space allows visitors to experience various facets of single living, emphasizing that while solitude can create a sense of isolation, it can also lead to connections that help alleviate these feelings.

Four Experience Zones

1. Digital Exchange Diary
An online diary filled with authentic voices from individuals living alone. This interactive digital notebook connects users to shared experiences during moments they feel the need to reach out to someone. It serves as a manifestation of the exhibition's theme based on previous research findings.

2. OneLab TV
A multimedia show featuring news based on the "FACT MAP," along with advertisements highlighting the exchange diary experience. This program also guides visitors on how to engage with the exhibition effectively.

3. FACT MAP Exhibition
Within the space, numerous displays convey the reality of single living through the popular "FACT MAP" content. Attendees can visually grasp the data-backed insights on single life and reflect on personal experiences through projections of various remarks sourced from survey participants.

4. Bookshelf
A curated shelf displaying previously published articles and inquiry responses from +ONE LIFE LAB, alongside a list of frequently searched terms related to solitary life. QR codes provide easy access to the corresponding articles for those curious to dive deeper into the topics.

The exhibition provides an authentic look beyond idealized versions of single living, encouraging guests to take a moment for self-reflection and appreciate their authentic solitary experiences through the lens of +ONE LIFE LAB.
