The Regeneron Science Talent Search (STS) is back for its 84th edition, bringing together America’s most promising high school scientists who are set to compete for a staggering $1.8 million in awards. Hosted by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and the Society for Science, this flagship STEM competition is renowned for identifying exceptional young minds who are driving innovation and making significant contributions to scientific inquiry.

In a process that began with approximately 2,500 entrants nationwide, the recently announced top 40 finalists represent a diverse mix of talent and dedication, all focused on addressing critical global challenges. The finalists were selected from 300 top scholars based on the originality and creativity of their research projects that span a wide array of disciplines including biochemistry, environmental science, and advanced diagnostic methods using artificial intelligence.

Among the research projects are highly relevant topics such as species migration patterns, crop protection strategies, and innovative low-cost pest management techniques. Other areas of focus include genetic therapies for cancer, and advanced methodologies for diagnosing diseases, showcasing the finalists’ commitment to tackling pressing societal issues through scientific exploration.

The award ceremony on March 11 will reveal the winners, culminating in the distribution of more than $3 million—a generous commitment underscoring the importance of educational resources in the realm of STEM. Each finalist will receive at least $25,000, with the top prizes ranging from $40,000 to a remarkable $250,000, further incentivizing these bright minds to continue their scientific pursuits.

The final awards not only recognize individual achievements but also extend support to schools, with each of the top 300 scholars' institutions receiving $2,000 for their math and science programs. This approach underscores a commitment to broader educational enrichment, fostering an environment where future scientists can thrive.
