Chad W. Phillips Takes Leadership at Nuveen Real Estate

In a significant development for the real estate investment sector, Nuveen, the investment management arm of TIAA, has announced the appointment of Chad W. Phillips as the new Global Head of Nuveen Real Estate. This appointment is effective immediately and comes after the retirement of Chris McGibbon, who had dedicated nearly 25 years to the firm.

As the Global Head, Phillips will oversee a staggering $141 billion in assets that span commercial real estate equity and debt investments across 22 countries. He will also lead the Nuveen Real Estate Global Executive Leadership Team, a critical entity that shapes the strategic initiatives of the platform.

Chad Phillips boasts nearly 25 years of experience in various aspects of real estate investing and portfolio management. He joined Nuveen in 2019, where he previously directed a global team of specialists focused on workplace, healthcare, retail, and mixed-use investments. His comprehensive understanding of investment strategy, performance, and fundraising efforts in these areas has garnered him recognition across the industry.

An alumnus of Davidson College with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in real estate from Georgetown University, Phillips stands out for his strong leadership style and unwavering commitment to client service. Mike Sales, Chief Executive Officer of Real Assets at Nuveen, expressed confidence in Phillips, stating, "Chad is known for his leadership style, investment expertise, and consistent commitment to client service. I am confident he will continue to drive our mission for excellence as he guides our platform into the future."

The transitional process will be facilitated by McGibbon, who will remain with the firm until June 30, 2025, ensuring a smooth handover to Phillips. According to Sales, McGibbon has played a crucial role in the growth and transformation of Nuveen's real estate business, solidifying its position as one of the top five players globally. "Chris has worked tirelessly to develop our real estate business, and his vision and dedication will leave a lasting impact," Sales remarked.

Nuveen Real Estate has built a strong legacy over its 90 years of operation, employing over 750 professionals dedicated to real estate across more than 30 cities in the U.S., Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The firm has established itself as one of the largest real estate investment managers in the world, noted for its comprehensive suite of funds and mandates that encompass both public and private investments in diverse geographies and investment styles.

With aspirations to maintain a client-centric focus, Phillips expressed his enthusiasm for leading such a dynamic platform. He stated, "It's a privilege and pleasure to take on the leadership of Nuveen Real Estate, a platform that combines deep sector knowledge with the advantages of our scale and reach. Focusing on our clients' objectives will remain our foremost priority as we continuously work to innovate through our teams' expertise and diligence."

Furthermore, McGibbon acknowledged the strong position that Nuveen's real estate arm now holds and his confidence in Phillips to continue steering the platform towards future successes. "The global leadership position that we have achieved is a testament to the strength of our team and their constant dedication to our investors," McGibbon added.

As Nuveen embarks on this new chapter with Chad W. Phillips at the helm, both investors and stakeholders can look forward to an era of consistent growth and innovation that enhances their investment experiences and reinforces the firm's commitment to excellence in real estate.
