Discovering Creativity: Art Workshop in Noto
On November 29, 2025, the Pola Museum Annex in Ginza, Tokyo, in partnership with the Noto 100 Project, is set to hold an art workshop aimed at middle and high school students from the Noto region. This initiative comes as part of ongoing efforts to support the recovery of areas affected by the earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula in January 2024. The earthquake left its mark, and many challenges still remain in the region's recovery.
The workshop is not just about creating art; it's also about fostering a sense of community and providing a platform for creativity in a time of need. Recognizing the resilience of Noto's youth in the face of adversity, the event aims to inspire students to embark on a journey of self-discovery and expression through art.
At the heart of the workshop will be renowned sculptor Yushi Nishijima, who will guide participants through the process of using wire to create animal sculptures. Nishijima is known for his innovative approach, incorporating mythological themes into his art. With a background from the Tokyo University of the Arts, he has captivated audiences with his intricate sculptures and installations. His work has been featured in various exhibitions, including a personal showcase at the Pola Museum Annex in 2023.

This workshop presents a unique opportunity for students to engage in creative activities, learn new skills, and contribute to the revitalization of their community. By transforming raw materials into art, participants will not only express their creativity but also connect with their surroundings and history.
Nishijima’s approach combines artistic skill with storytelling, allowing students to explore the narratives behind the animals they create. He has been actively contributing to the art world and using his platform to promote charitable causes. In 2021, he established gallery newroll in Gunma, further expanding his influence in the art scene.
The collaboration between the Pola Museum and the Noto 100 Project embodies a commitment to nurturing the next generation of artists and ensuring that the challenges faced by the Noto region are addressed through creative means.
With limited spots available, interested students are encouraged to apply promptly. This is a fantastic chance to learn from an established artist, engage with peers, and contribute to the ongoing recovery efforts in Noto.
As the art community continues to rally for support and reinvention, the Noto art workshop stands as a beacon of hope for young creative minds, proving that even in challenging times, art can pave the way for resilience and renewal.
