Vistria Group Appoints Jeff Hawkins as New Head of Portfolio Resources Group

The Vistria Group, a private investment firm specializing in mid-market investments across vital industries, has made a significant leadership change by appointing Jeff Hawkins as the Head of its Portfolio Resources Group (PRG). This decision comes at a pivotal moment for Vistria, following a remarkable return of over $1 billion to investors in 2025. Jeff Hawkins, who boasts more than 20 years of experience in operational transformation and revenue enhancement across various sectors including technology and healthcare, is expected to bolster the firm’s capacity for value creation across its portfolio of companies.

Jeff's extensive background is marked by roles in management consulting and private equity, with notable positions at firms like TPG, AON, and Alix Partners. He also possesses considerable hands-on experience, having served in senior roles at several portfolio companies. His career didn't start in finance; he began as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Air Force and later transitioned to the National Security Agency, which equipped him with a unique perspective on strategic decision-making.

"Jeff brings a rare combination of strategic rigor and hands-on operating experience," noted Kip Kirkpatrick, Co-CEO of Vistria. This sentiment resonates particularly well with Vistria's vision to amplify the capabilities of its portfolio companies through effective operational strategies. Jeff’s appointment aligns with the firm’s commitment to helping its investment partners achieve key strategic goals and foster sustainable growth.

Jeff’s track record speaks volumes. He has successfully steered organizations through hands-on transformations, leading to impressive financial returns. His previous roles include serving as the interim Chief Revenue Officer for a healthcare services company with a revenue of $1.3 billion, where he redefined the business care model, successfully positioning it against conventional insurance offerings, ultimately culminating in a lucrative exit to UnitedHealth Group.

Another significant achievement includes his leadership as CEO of a $70 million enterprise technology entity, where he completely revamped its go-to-market strategy and product focus, resulting in a sixfold return upon exit. Moreover, Jeff orchestrated a crucial product overhaul and market-driven approach at a $300 million real-time operating systems tech firm, amplifying customer retention and leading to a remarkable 14x return at exit.

With Jeff at the helm of PRG, he aims to implement transformative growth strategies that align directly with Vistria’s objectives. “I am drawn to organizations that necessitate building something new, rather than merely optimizing existing processes,” stated Hawkins during his introductory remarks. The synergy between Jeff's aspirations and Vistria's strategic needs seems promising.

In conjunction with Hawkins’ appointment, Jon Samuels is stepping into a new role as Senior Partner and Chief Impact and Policy Officer, a move reflecting Vistria’s focus on integrating policy and impact considerations into its investment strategies. Jon's leadership will further enhance the value proposition for portfolio companies, particularly in navigating today’s complex regulatory landscape.

Martin Nesbitt, Co-CEO of Vistria, emphasized the importance of Hawkins’ leadership in refining the operational strategies that the firm brings to its portfolio companies. The Vistria Group, with around $18 billion in assets under management, aspires to create not just financial returns, but also societal impact through its investments in crucial sectors including healthcare, education, and financial services.

As Vistria continues its trajectory of growth and transformation, Hawkins’ leadership and expertise will undoubtedly play a critical role in the firm’s future endeavors, solidifying its position as a partner of choice among mid-market private investment firms.
