Upcoming Seminar on vRAN Implementation by NTT Docomo
On March 2, 2026, NTT Docomo will be hosting a seminar titled
“Trends in vRAN Implementation and the Evolution of Base Stations.” This informative session will be led by Tomoya Kuno, an expert from the Cloud Design Department of the Service Design Division at NTT Docomo. Participants can choose to attend either in person at the SSK Seminar Room in Minato, Tokyo, or join via a live Zoom webinar. An archive of the session will also be available for two weeks, allowing for flexible viewing.
Seminar Overview
Traditionally, base stations required the deployment of dedicated equipment across thousands of distributed locations to tackle the real-time processing demands associated with wireless communication. This made it challenging to manage the numerous devices effectively, often necessitating specialized maintenance methods. However, with the evolution of virtualization technologies and accelerators, a new paradigm known as
vRAN (Virtual Radio Access Network) has emerged. This significant innovation allows mobile operators to virtualize their base stations using generic equipment, which fundamentally transforms the management and operation practices of mobile networks, from construction to fault response.
Focus Areas of the Seminar
In this seminar, Kuno will explore various aspects related to vRAN, including but not limited to:
1.
Understanding vRAN: Attendees will gain insights into what vRAN entails and how it differs from traditional base station configurations.
2.
O-RAN Development: The seminar will highlight the contributions made by the O-RAN (Open Radio Access Network) initiative in spearheading the vRAN movement.
3.
Challenges of vRAN: Kuno will discuss the challenges that come with implementing vRAN technology and the hurdles faced by mobile operators.
4.
Mobile Operators’ Initiatives: Learn about the efforts undertaken by mobile operators to transition to virtualization and embrace new operational methods.
5.
Q&A and Networking: Finally, there will be an opportunity for participants to ask questions and exchange business cards.
