Hexagon Agility Secures Significant Orders for Natural Gas Fuel Systems in North American Heavy-Duty Trucks

Hexagon Agility Secures New Orders

Hexagon Agility, a subsidiary of Hexagon Composites ASA, has announced the receipt of new orders amounting to approximately USD 4.2 million (around NOK 42 million) for their natural gas fuel systems. This significant influx of orders caters to trucks equipped with Cummins' latest X15N natural gas engine, specifically aimed at the North American heavy-duty truck market.

Growing Demand Across Various Industries

These new orders have been placed by more than 10 prominent Class 8 fleets across the United States and Canada. Notably, these fleets operate in a variety of sectors, including logistics, food and beverage, oil and gas, and construction.

Eric Bippus, Chief Commercial Officer at Hexagon Agility, stated, "Despite the challenging freight environment, we observe a wide adoption across North America, as many fleets are shifting from diesel to natural gas. The increased interest is largely due to the remarkable performance and cost efficiency of the new 15L natural gas engine, which offers diesel-like capabilities along with immediate savings in fuel costs and a substantial reduction in emissions."

The New 15L Engine Revolutionizes the Market

In the North American region, approximately 300,000 heavy-duty trucks are sold each year. Until now, the addressable market for natural gas solutions was limited to about 100,000 trucks. However, with the introduction of the Cummins X15N natural gas engine, a broader range of applications is now available, expanding the addressable market by an impressive 200,000 heavy-duty trucks annually.

The new 15L engine boasts power ratings of up to 500 hp (approximately 370 kW) and an impressive torque of up to 1850 lb.-ft (around 2500 Nm). This power output caters to the long-haul and heavy-load demands of commercial fleets, providing a range of up to 1,200 miles (2,000 km), comparable to that of traditional diesel engines.

Robust Infrastructure Supports Natural Gas Adoption

Moreover, the burgeoning natural gas trucking industry is bolstered by a comprehensive network of over 1,600 public and private CNG/RNG fueling stations strategically located across major transport corridors in North America. This well-established infrastructure ensures that operators transitioning to natural gas have convenient access to fuel, making it a feasible option for their operations.
