GAC's Overseas Expansion Thrives: Record Exports Achieved in August 2026

GAC's Overseas Growth Surges to New Heights

In August 2026, GAC, one of China's prominent automotive manufacturers, showcased remarkable growth by achieving record export numbers across various overseas markets. The total exports for proprietary brands soared to 26,978 units, representing an impressive 177% increase compared to the same period last year. For the year-to-date, cumulative exports from January to August reached 172,008 units, reflecting a 136% year-on-year growth. So far, GAC has approached 600,000 total exports, solidifying its presence in the global automotive industry.

Booming Sales in the Americas

One of the standout performances this August was seen in the Americas, where terminal sales jumped by 93% year-on-year. This significant growth is attributed to GAC's increasing foothold in the region. Notably, Uruguay has become a critical market for GAC, marking a historic achievement by ranking fifth among all passenger vehicle brands and third among pure EV brands for the first time. The GAC AION V also made headlines by ranking second in overall SUV sales and holding the top position in the compact SUV segment in Uruguay during July.

Steady Growth in Southeast Asia

In Southeast Asia, the trend of robust sales continued with a 24% increase in terminal sales year-on-year. Highlighted markets include the Philippines, where sales escalated by an astonishing 283%, and Singapore, which recorded an 89% growth. Thailand and Indonesia also contributed to this growth with increases of 27% and 24%, respectively. Among these successes, the Hong Kong market stood out, with the GAC E9 being the number one luxury MPV in July. For the first seven months of the year, GAC ranked second among Chinese brands and third overall in Hong Kong sales.

Africa Emerges as a Key Market

Remarkably, Africa has become GAC’s fastest-growing overseas market this August, with retail sales skyrocketing by an impressive 881% year-on-year. This expansion has been underpinned by localized production agreements, such as the one signed in Egypt with Jameel Motors. Moreover, GAC officially launched its operations in Ghana, introducing flagship models including the S7, GS8, and AION V, indicating a strategic push into this pivotal market.

Strong Performance in the Middle East

In the Middle East, GAC continued its steady growth trend, earning the trust of over 100,000 users in the region. On August 28, the company made a notable international entry with the XT80, its first off-road vehicle. This launch, along with the upcoming GS7 PHEV launch scheduled for September, is set to enhance GAC's presence in the Middle East automotive market.

Positive Trends in Europe

European retail sales also saw notable improvements, experiencing a 93% month-on-month growth in August. Major increases were reported in markets like the UK (+89%), Portugal (+167%), and Poland (+33%). Particularly, Greece distinguished itself by ranking second in pure EV sales during August, continually improving its market share.

Conclusion

GAC’s phenomenal performance in export numbers and market share reflects the company's strategic efforts and phased achievements in overseas expansion. It serves as a vivid example of Chinese automotive brands successfully entering and gaining recognition in the competitive global market. As GAC continues to ramp up its international strategies, industry analysts expect even more significant growth in the future, positioning GAC as a key player in the international automotive landscape.
