SHEIN's Commitment to Safety: Over Two Million Tests in 2024

SHEIN's Commitment to Product Safety in 2024

In an impressive move to bolster consumer confidence and uphold high standards, SHEIN has announced that it conducted over two million product safety tests in the year 2024. This significant achievement underscores the company's dedication to both product safety and sustainability. Shein collaborated with respected third-party testing agencies, including Intertek, SGS, Bureau Veritas (BV), and TÜV, to ensure rigorous testing procedures.

Investment in Safety

Looking ahead, SHEIN plans to allocate more than US$15 million to further enhance its product safety testing and compliance protocols in 2025. This investment reflects the company's commitment to maintaining the highest levels of safety in its product offerings.

A Comprehensive Safety System

SHEIN has developed a robust, multi-faceted product safety protocol designed to guarantee compliance with local laws and regulations, as well as meet its own stringent safety standards. This protocol encompasses various phases of the sales process, ensuring that products are safe from design through delivery.

1. Standards and Policies
Vendors are obligated to adhere to relevant product safety laws and SHEIN's established standards, including the Restricted Substances List (RSL).

2. Documentation and Certification Review
Suppliers must submit essential documentation for a range of product categories, which SHEIN reviews rigorously. The company is equally committed to educating its vendors to bolster their understanding of compliance requirements.

3. Monitoring and Testing
In 2024 alone, SHEIN executed over two million safety tests, ranging from chemical analyses to material checks, in collaboration with its partners.

4. Dynamic Vendor Evaluations
SHEIN regularly evaluates vendor performance and compliance. Should any vendor fail to meet requirements, SHEIN is prepared to take decisive action, including product delisting and partnership termination when necessary. Over the last year, the company has ended collaborations with more than 260 sellers that did not comply with safety requirements.

Leonard Lin, SHEIN's President of EMEA and Global Head of Public Affairs, emphasized, "Ensuring customer safety is of utmost importance to us at SHEIN. We are dedicated to protecting our customers throughout the entire selling process."

Advancing Corporate Responsibility

Beyond product safety, SHEIN is integrating numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing its corporate responsibility.

1. Appointment of Sustainability Leadership

SHEIN recently appointed Mustan Lalani as its Head of Global Sustainability, reinforcing its focus on responsible business practices.

2. Innovative Recycling Processes

SHEIN has partnered with Donghua University to create a groundbreaking polyester recycling process. This new technology accepts a diverse range of feedstock materials and promises a more cost-effective recycled polyester option.

3. SHEIN Foundation and €5M Commitment

Moreover, SHEIN has launched the SHEIN Foundation, committing €5 million (US$5.30 million) to the Africa Collect Textiles (ACT) Foundation. This initiative aims to cultivate sustainable communities in areas where SHEIN operates.

In summary, SHEIN's comprehensive approach to product safety, consumer education, and sustainability showcases its dedication to becoming a responsible global fashion retailer. The commitment to ongoing testing, combined with innovative recycling and community investments, positions SHEIN as a leader in ethical fashion practices.
