Aliplast Strengthens Its Leadership in Plastic Recycling

Aliplast, a subsidiary of the Hera Group, has made a significant move to reinforce its leadership in the high-quality plastic recycling sector through the acquisition of a 70% stake in Kronos Polymer Polska. This strategic agreement is expected to enhance Aliplast's production capabilities and expand its presence in Poland, a market poised for growth in recycled plastic demand.

The agreement involves a new company that will be established by carving out Kronos Polymer from the existing operations in Poland, specifically focused on polyethylene (PE) recycling and processing. With this acquisition, Aliplast aims to bolster its production capacity significantly, which currently includes a production output of 100,000 tonnes annually of various recycled products, such as PET and LDPE flakes and granules, sheets, and films.

Expanding Recycling Operations

Kronos Polymer will operate from a modern facility located in Gniew, Pomorskie, around 300 kilometers from Aliplast Polska's branch in Tuszyn. The new company will feature a comprehensive polyethylene sorting, grinding, and washing line, capable of handling 12,000 tonnes per year. This will allow Aliplast to conduct recycling and regeneration directly on site, optimizing logistics and operations in the local market.

In addition to the new acquisition, Aliplast is actively working on projects in Italy, including new recycling plants in Modena for rigid plastics and Borgolavezzaro for PE-LD. These initiatives enhance the industrial synergies already present within the Hera Group and will effectively double Aliplast's overall recycling capacity to over 210,000 tonnes per year.

Strategic Importance in the European Market

The expansion is particularly crucial in light of the recent European legislation surrounding packaging waste management aimed at reducing environmental impacts and fostering a circular economy. The PPWR regulation emphasizes the need for a fundamental redesign of the entire packaging supply chain, making recycled materials more essential than ever. Aliplast is committed to improving the quality and traceability of its recycled products to meet these new regulations.

This acquisition is subject to certain customary conditions, including the completion of the corporate spin-off and the transfer of environmental permits, with the aim to finalize the deal by the end of 2026.
