New Exhibition Experience at the National Ethnological Museum



Starting from March 26, 2026, the National Ethnological Museum in Japan will unveil a groundbreaking exhibition experience that integrates WHILL's self-driving mobility and the newly expanded "Minpaku Voice Guide" audio system. This innovative setup will enable visitors to navigate the entire museum, made up of Blocks A, B, and C, while enjoying engaging audio commentary delivered in a dialogue format by professional voice actors.

Overview of the Service


The WHILL autonomous mobility service began operatons in October 2024, initially covering the C Block exhibits, followed by the introduction of the Minpaku Voice Guide in April 2025. With the new expansion, all exhibition spaces will become accessible via WHILL’s self-driving mobility, offering all visitors a comfortable and inclusive viewing environment, suitable for diverse audiences.

How to Use the Service


For visitors using WHILL's mobility:
  • - Guests can use the WHILL autonomously operated mobility, equipped with an auto-play device.
  • - Note: Limited availability according to safety regulations set by the manufacturer.

For those using the Minpaku Voice Guide only:
  • - Visitors may utilize their own smartphones to access the service by scanning QR codes displayed throughout the museum.
  • - Loaner smartphones are also available for visitors who need them.

Admission Fees


While an exhibition viewing ticket is required for admission, there are no additional fees associated with using the WHILL mobility or the voice guide.

The Minpaku Voice Guide is a smartphone-based audio guide created in collaboration with Acoustiguide Japan Co., aimed at enhancing the visitor's experience. Whether riding in the WHILL mobility or walking, users will have access to concise and informative audio content that highlights significant exhibits without detracting from the viewing experience.
