Nishikimachi's Local Treasures Get a Nationwide Spotlight
Nestled in the heart of Kumamoto Prefecture, Nishikimachi is known for its rich agricultural heritage. Red Horse Corporation, based in Sumida, Tokyo, has taken a pivotal role in promoting the local products of Nishikimachi through its direct-to-consumer online platform, 'San Choku Owl.' This initiative is part of the '2025 Open Innovation Product Development PR Project' aimed at enhancing local industries and fostering community spirit.
The Vision Behind the Initiative
With the belief that product development can invigorate local economies, Red Horse Corporation collaborates with governments and local businesses to create innovative regional products. Last year, they successfully partnered with Nishikimachi to develop new items that celebrate its unique agricultural offerings, including green tea and rice-based products.
The collaboration yielded over 18 items that exceeded initial expectations, ranging from sweets to breads, all flavored with the essence of Nishikimachi. A recent tasting event in Fukuoka allowed attendees to sample these new products, generating interest and enthusiasm around the region's culinary offerings.
A Year of Promotion Ahead
As part of this year’s campaign, Red Horse Corporation aims to broaden the recognition of Nishikimachi's special products. Starting September 1, a dedicated special feature page was launched on San Choku Owl showcasing an array of local delicacies that highlight Nishikimachi's artisanship.
In August, a detailed information session was held for local producers, drawing enthusiastic participation. Many local business owners expressed their desire to tap into the San Choku Owl platform as a channel for expanding their market reach. They engaged in discussions about product registration and the nuances of utilizing this platform effectively.
Upcoming Free Shipping Campaign
Kicking off on September 16, 2025, the free shipping campaign will cater to around 70 featured items on the platform. Customers can explore a variety of seasonal offerings as they become available, making now the perfect opportunity to explore Nishikimachi’s special products.
