In a collaborative effort between Technos College, a renowned institution for media studies in Japan, and the Japan Hockey Association, the third installment of a promotional campaign titled "120 seconds to get hooked on hockey" has recently been unveiled. This initiative, set to engage younger audiences, particularly elementary and junior high school students, aims to succinctly present the thrilling nature of hockey in just two minutes.
The project is part of the school's innovative program called "TECHNOS Seminars," which encourages interdisciplinary learning and real-world problem-solving among students. Under the guidance of the Japan Hockey Association, located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, the video features some of the nation's top female hockey representatives, leveraging their extensive competitive experience to convey the sport's excitement.
For this latest promotional video, cutting-edge filming techniques were utilized, including high-speed cameras and stabilizers such as the DJI Ronin 5. The result is a visually captivating production that pulls viewers into the dynamic world of hockey. The PR video is set to launch on the Japan Hockey Association's official YouTube channel and various social media platforms starting May 21. You can find it on
YouTube here.
The initiative to produce videos focusing on the women’s hockey team began as part of Technos College's ongoing efforts to address societal challenges through student-led projects. 2024 will see further developments, as the college intends to create supportive content for the women’s national team, highlighting the sport's cultural significance and community-building potential. With plans to engage audiences through various social media strategies, the hope is to uplift the recognition of field hockey as a sport, particularly among young generations.
In addition to showcasing the athletes' skills and the excitement of the game, these videos also serve educational purposes by clearly explaining the basic rules and the unique techniques employed by players. Through this multimedia approach, students at Technos College are gaining hands-on experience with professional equipment and techniques essential for success in the film and media industries.
One of the project’s key contributors, film director Naoshi Takasu, expressed pride in the students’ rapid adaptation to using advanced filming technology under pressure, noting the necessity for practical skills in real-world settings. The students were tasked with shooting around 80% of the script in a strict two-hour timeframe, which they managed due to their prior training and dedication.
Hiroto Kono, a third-year student specializing in media studies, emphasized the challenge of capturing the sport’s fast-paced action while ensuring impactful visual storytelling. Kono's insights into the importance of preparation and quick decision-making during shoots provide valuable lessons that extend beyond the classroom.
Looking ahead, the college is committed to fostering the next generation of filmmakers and sports enthusiasts through initiatives like these, reinforcing both the importance of sports in society and the value of comprehensive education. With a vision to inspire young talents and cultivate a passion for hockey, Technos College continues to lead innovative projects in collaboration with pivotal organizations like the Japan Hockey Association.
