Hellas to Install Synthetic Turf in Austin Schools

Hellas, a company under TenCate, is proud to announce its recent selection to install synthetic turf and tracks at the Austin Independent School District (AISD). This marks the beginning of a transformative effort financed by a substantial $2.44 billion bond approved by voters in Travis County in 2022. The installation will kick off at LBJ and Northeast Early College High Schools, laying the groundwork for improved facilities that address safety, equity, and affordability in education.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held at LBJ Early College High, celebrating this significant milestone for the district. Jeff Smith, President of Hellas, addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of providing an exceptional environment that supports student development and success. He reiterated Hellas’ commitment to enhancing educational facilities across the region.

Superintendent Matias Segura of AISD also shared his thoughts during the ceremony, stating, "Investing in our public schools ensures that every child in Austin ISD has the access they need to quality education. This initiative's goal is to improve our facilities to reflect how much we care for our students' needs."

Randy Bryant, the principal of LBJ Early College High School, highlighted that these enhancements would not only elevate the school's sports infrastructure but would also help student-athletes perform to the best of their abilities. Further, Trustee Candace Hunter remarked, "Austin ISD is dedicated to creating pathways to success for our students."

The LBJ Early College High School has a proud history, notably becoming the first AISD football team to reach state finals in nearly five decades back in 2021, exemplifying the perseverance of its athletes and the dedication of the coaching staff led by head coach Jahmal Fenner.

As part of this initiative, Hellas will install the Matrix Helix® Blend Turf. This innovative turf merges highly durable Helix® monofilament fibers with robust XPS fibrillated tape fiber, ensuring longevity and resilience. The Helix fibers utilize Shape Memory Technology, designed to maintain their structure and keep the infill secure during regular use.
