Success of British Boarding School Fair October 2025: Insights into UK Education

British Boarding School Fair October 2025: A Resounding Success

The British Boarding School Fair October 2025, organized by Pippa's Guardians, took place on October 26 at JP Tower Hall & Conference in Tokyo. This event gathered representatives from 23 of the UK's prestigious boarding schools, welcoming 199 groups of 422 attendees, excluding those from the J PREP Fair. This success highlights a growing interest in UK education among Japanese families, particularly those considering boarding school options for their children.

Changing Trends in UK Education for Japanese Students

The fair, which began in 2023, has evolved significantly, now in its fourth edition. It connects families of junior high and high school students with esteemed British boarding schools. Over the years, a noticeable shift has occurred regarding the understanding and engagement of Japanese families towards UK education, with a decrease in the average age of inquirers. According to reports, the number of Japanese students enrolled in UK boarding schools rose from 477 in 2023 to 675 by January 2025, illustrating the increasing popularity of this educational path.

Notable institutions like Shrewsbury School, known for its strong house culture and robust alumni network, and its sister school, Packwood School, were present. Families showed particular interest in schools such as Charterhouse School and Windlesham House School, which are celebrated for their focus on academic excellence and nurturing environments.

Diverse Educational Offerings

Attendees were exposed to a wide range of schools, including globally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) programs like Sevenoaks School and one-year study options at Brandel's School. The fair showcased institutions that provide both A-Level and IBDP curriculums, catering to the increasing popularity of IB schools in Japan. Many participants expressed interest in short-term study abroad programs, emphasizing the growing desire for international educational experiences.

The Calfrod School, renowned for its tennis programs, attracted numerous inquiries, with attendees eager to learn about their offerings. Representatives noted the increasing comprehension among Japanese families regarding UK education and their readiness for boarding school experiences. Schools participating for the first time were astonished by the enthusiastic turnout.

Seminars and Interactive Sessions

As with previous fairs, educational seminars were held, featuring Ben Hughes, the representative of Pippa's Guardians, who discussed the nuances of boarding school education. Popular local educator Jun Saito from J PREP also conducted a preparation seminar for students considering study abroad. The buzz in the venue indicated an engaged crowd eager for insights on this educational journey.

In an afternoon session, Ben Hughes facilitated a discussion with deputy headmaster Katie Dallimore from Dragon School and headmaster Rio Winkler of Shrewsbury School, who shared real experiences from their respective schools.

Dallimore provided insights into junior boarding, emphasizing the importance of assessing a school's atmosphere during visits. Parents were encouraged to observe whether students appeared happy and engaged, indicating a positive environment for their children's growth.

Winkler shared the advantages of studying the UK National Curriculum A-Level, noting how the supportive boarding school environment contributes not only to academic success but also to holistic personal development.

A Family-Friendly Experience

To enhance the experience for families with young children, four sponsors, including Japan Airlines and Fujifilm, set up engaging booths in the foyer. Activities such as origami airplane games and photo opportunities with professional photographers were available, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

The mobile bookstore from Maruzen & Junkudo showcased 44 recommended English books and unique Harry Potter merchandise, captivating children's interest.

Louise, a former boarding school teacher, hosted a reading session, allowing children to engage in quizzes related to the stories. This initiative was part of the Pippa's Guardians Summer School, designed specifically for younger students in the UK.

Conclusion

The British Boarding School Fair October 2025 not only connected families with esteemed educational institutions but also nurtured a community eager for international educational experiences. Pippa's Guardians continues to play a vital role in supporting students and their families, fostering a well-being-centered educational environment.
