UMI and NADEC Forge a Strategic Partnership to Innovate Saudi Agriculture

UMI and NADEC: Pioneering Agricultural Innovation in Saudi Arabia

In a significant step towards advancing the agriculture sector in Saudi Arabia, Universal Materials Incubator Co. (UMI) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Agricultural Development Company (NADEC). The signing ceremony took place on January 11, 2026, during the Saudi Japan Ministerial Investment Forum held in Saudi Arabia.

This partnership aims to leverage Japan's cutting-edge technology to enhance agricultural practices in Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Both UMI and NADEC are committed to conducting technology exploration and due diligence support that will facilitate the adoption of Japanese innovations in local agricultural sectors, effectively bridging Japan's historical expertise in materials and chemicals with Saudi Arabia's dynamic industrial vision.

Localisation Strategy: A First-Of-Its-Kind Initiative

One of the driving forces behind this collaboration is the 'Localization First' strategy. Designed as a model case for the Saudi-Japan Vision 2030 initiative, this approach focuses on transitioning from a traditional import-reliant framework towards a more integrated industrial structure that combines Japan's intellectual property with Saudi Arabia's abundant natural resources.

To adapt these technologies to the unique climatic and soil conditions found in Saudi Arabia, local trials will be conducted. Moreover, plans are underway to construct manufacturing facilities that utilize organic materials specific to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, such as waste from olive skins, thereby moving towards a circular economy.

UMI is also collaborating with Forming Future, an incubation accelerator in Saudi Arabia, to further strengthen and maximize the startup ecosystem in the region.

Leadership and Commitment to Sustainable Development

Key figures at the signing ceremony included Mohamed Al-Rajhi, Vice President of Sourcing and Supply Chain at NADEC, H.E. Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia, and Ryo Masaki Akazawa, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan. Their presence signifies the commitment of both nations to foster sustainable industrial foundations that will benefit their economies.

UMI operates with a clear vision: to enhance Japan's technological prowess through the cultivation of excellent materials and chemical companies, establishing a robust global industrial framework. Founded on October 6, 2015, UMI focuses on investing in new technologies and businesses in the materials and chemical sectors that will serve as the cornerstone of future industries.

With its headquarters located at 1 Chome-12-22 Tsukiji, Chuo City, Tokyo, UMI is well-positioned to drive innovation and contribute significantly to the burgeoning agricultural landscape in Saudi Arabia. As both countries work towards achieving their economic development goals, this collaboration marks an important milestone for future partnerships and growth.
