Revitalizing Ipponsugi Street: A New Culinary Hub After Noto Peninsula Earthquake

Restoring Everyday Life on Ipponsugi Street

In the aftermath of the devastating 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, the landscape of Ipponsugi Street in Nanao is beginning to change, bringing hope back to the community. This transformation is powered by Kanazawa Biyori and the local culinary establishment, Urushitouho Araki, which aims to revitalize both its physical surroundings and the social fabric of the neighborhood.

The owner of Araki, a long-standing presence in the area, decided to expand their operations by acquiring a nearby former clothing shop. This bold decision was driven by a vision to create a welcoming hub where locals could gather, share meals, and foster connections, effectively reigniting the communal spirit that the earthquake had extinguished.

A New Gathering Place

The revamped space will open to the public on November 1, featuring two distinct venues: Tori to Matsuba, a yakitori restaurant located on the second floor, and Umi-machi Shoten, a more casual dining spot in the former clothing store. Together, these eateries are set to restore everyday warmth and familiarity to Ipponsugi Street.

Culinary Offerings

Tori to Matsuba specializes in expertly grilled yakitori, using only the finest local chicken. Each dish is thoughtfully paired with a selection of sake sourced from Ishikawa, providing a true taste of the region. This restaurant aspires to create a relaxed, inviting atmosphere while serving high-quality meals that highlight the bounties of Noto.

Conversely, Umi-machi Shoten aims to be a versatile establishment that serves as a lunch venue by day and transforms into a cozy space for evening meals and drinks. The ambiance is designed to feel like a neighborhood
