Breakthrough Achievement in Engineering Education
On June 13, 2025, Yuri Nakamura, a specialized technical staff member from the Educational Support Division at Okayama University, was awarded the prestigious JSEE Award. This award, presented by the Japan Society for Engineering Education (JSEE), honors individuals and organizations that have contributed significantly to enhancing the quality of engineering education. Notably, this is the first time the award has been conferred to a staff member from Okayama University, and also the first instance of it being awarded to a technical staff member across all national universities in Japan.
Nakamura's relentless dedication to the advancement of engineering education and international collaboration has been recognized through various initiatives, including organizing international seminars and presenting research at conferences both domestically and abroad. Over the years, she has received multiple accolades, such as the 2022 Chemical Communication Award, the Japan Society for Engineering Education’s Chugoku and Shikoku Region Award, and the 10th Women Engineers Career Development Award.
In her statement upon receiving the award, Nakamura expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am truly honored to have my efforts in organizing seminars, lectures, and contributions to academic journals recognized. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who supported me throughout this journey.”
Vice President Saito Norihito, who serves as the head of the Educational Support Division, commented on Nakamura’s achievement, noting the significance for both the university and the career development of technical staff. He highlighted the importance of recognizing Nakamura’s ongoing contributions to initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and capabilities of technical staff within the institution. The university is actively promoting various transformations led by technical staff to reinforce its role as a research university committed to fostering innovation in the local community and beyond.
Furthermore, Nakamura holds certification as an educator in engineering and technology from the Japan Society for Engineering Education and as a science communicator from the Japan Science Communication Association. Currently, she is pursuing her MBA in the Master's Program for Human Society and Culture at Okayama University's Graduate School, utilizing the university's support system for graduate studies. This endeavor will enable her to gain management knowledge and continue her sustained contributions to the next generation of engineering education.
