ZTE's Signal Reach Program Triumphs at WSIS 2025 Awards

On July 11, 2025, ZTE Corporation, a leading global provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, was honored with the WSIS Champion Award for its impactful 'Signal Reach Program' implemented in Africa. This recognition, presented during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Awards Ceremony, highlights ZTE's commitment to enhancing digital connectivity and cultural diversity within the ICT sector.

The WSIS Champion Award stands as a prestigious accolade awarded during an event co-hosted by esteemed organizations such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This award aims to acknowledge outstanding projects that leverage information and communication technologies to improve people's lives.

ZTE's Signal Reach Program particularly stood out among numerous entries, showcasing innovative solutions that tackle the issue of inadequate digital infrastructure in remote areas of Africa. The program promotes ultra-fast connectivity, green energy usage, and inclusive sharing, aiming to provide seamless digital access to underserved communities. The project successfully implements end-to-end solutions, integrating base-station deployment with terminal services to enhance connectivity.

One of the key innovations of the Signal Reach Program is its modular base station technology combined with solar energy systems, enabling the rapid deployment of EcoSite base stations within just seven days. These base stations utilize ZTE-developed 2TR Tri-band UBR technology, which significantly reduces network coverage costs by 70% and boosts network expansion efficiency by 60%. Coupled with the EcoEnergy solution, the program ensures a stable and reliable green energy supply, while iEnergy management software optimizes energy consumption, further reducing operational costs and improving system sustainability.

The operational success of the program is evident in its implementation in Liberia, where the project team managed to establish 128 base stations in just three months. This initiative provided stable mobile communication services to over 580,000 rural users, significantly addressing the connectivity gap in these underserved regions.

Notably, the Signal Reach Program also emphasizes the importance of cultural diversity. By facilitating reliable digital connectivity in remote African areas, the initiative enables local communities to integrate more fully into the global information society. This promotes exchanges and understanding between different cultures and fosters the development of cultural diversity across the continent.

At the WSIS+20 High-Level Event, ZTE's Vice President Summer Chen participated in the impactful Partner2Connect (P2C) session, expressing pride in ZTE being recognized as a P2C Champion by the ITU for its proactive role in driving global digitalization. Chen reaffirmed ZTE's commitment to advancing digital transformation and fostering sustainable development worldwide.

As ZTE moves forward, the company intends to continue promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while championing global digitalization efforts and empowering communities through inclusive and innovative technologies.
