SCIRENT Welcomes Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Haverkamp as Chief Medical Officer



In a strategic move to bolster its medical and scientific leadership, SCIRENT has announced the appointment of Prof. Dr. Wilhelm Haverkamp as its new Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Prof. Dr. Haverkamp brings with him over thirty years of extensive experience in both research and clinical practice, particularly in the area of cardiac electrophysiology. His remarkable accolade as an internationally recognized expert positions him to significantly enhance SCIRENT's capabilities in the cardiovascular domain. He will focus on building and expanding structured safety services, including the establishment of Data Safety Monitoring Committees (DSMCs) and Clinical Event Committees (CECs).

Throughout his distinguished career, Prof. Haverkamp has developed a deep understanding of various cardiovascular conditions, including acquired and inherited arrhythmias, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and cardiogenetics. His research interests extend across experimental, translational, and clinical studies that delve into disease mechanisms, diagnostics, and therapeutic approaches.

In recent years, his endeavors have also included contributions to artificial intelligence-enhanced cardiac diagnostics, paving the way for advancements in precision cardiology. His expertise is backed by an impressive portfolio of over 420 publications in esteemed cardiovascular journals, reflecting his contributions to both the scientific community and practical medical fields.

Prof. Haverkamp completed his medical education in Münster and continued to specialize in internal medicine and cardiology at the University Hospital Münster, later becoming senior physician and head of electrophysiology until 2002. Since then, he has been associated with the renowned Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where he holds a professorship in electrophysiology, leading the electrophysiology unit at the Department of Cardiology until 2017. Furthermore, he served as acting head of the department for significant periods, from 2009 to 2014.

His involvement extends beyond academia; he is an active participant in the German Cardiac Society and the European Society of Cardiology, contributing to clinical guidelines, scientific exchange, and educational initiatives. Additionally, Prof. Haverkamp has played pivotal roles as a principal investigator in numerous clinical trials across national and international landscapes, advising pharmaceutical companies and regulatory bodies on matters concerning drug safety and cardiovascular research.
