FMPA and Origis Energy Announce Completion of Whistling Duck Solar Energy Center
The Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA), collaborating with several municipal electric utilities and Origis Energy, has officially completed the Whistling Duck Solar Energy Center. This facility, positioned in Levy County near Williston, Florida, offers nearly 75 MWac of solar power to four municipalities, marking a significant milestone in Florida's push for renewable energy.
Whistling Duck serves as the fourth installation within the Florida Municipal Solar Project (FMSP) and is pivotal in concluding Phase II of a broader initiative aimed at generating a total of 300 MW of solar energy. According to Jacob Williams, FMPA’s general manager and CEO, the operational launch of Whistling Duck brings to a close Phase II of their solar expansion, which encompasses 13 unique communities. This achievement enhances FMPA's capacity for reliable and economically viable solar energy while ensuring price stability for the communities involved.
The communities benefiting from this new solar facility include Homestead, Key West, Lake Worth Beach, and Winter Park. It is noteworthy that Homestead, Lake Worth Beach, and Winter Park began their solar energy journey back in December 2025 when they first received power from the Rice Creek Solar Energy Center, which was part of the initial phase of this expansive solar initiative.
FMPA coordinates this collaborative project where member-owned municipal utilities will purchase the generated power. As the builder, owner, and operator of the facility, Origis Energy is a critical partner in this endeavor. Vikas Anand, the CEO of Origis Energy, expressed pride in the partnership with FMPA, emphasizing that Whistling Duck Solar will significantly contribute to the goal of providing efficient and consistent solar energy to local communities. Anand stated, “We are excited about how this project enhances Florida's energy infrastructure.”
The commercial operations of Whistling Duck commenced in December 2025, following the successful launch of the Rice Creek Solar Energy Center, which provided an additional 75 MWac of renewable energy to the grid.
