On June 27, 2026, COCOLON, a community for families and supporters of children with severe physical and intellectual disabilities, will host the Kokone Festival 2026 in Edogawa, Tokyo. This event aims to create an inclusive sports day where severely disabled children can participate alongside their siblings and families, fostering a sense of community and togetherness.

The Challenge of Participation



Families with severely disabled children often face significant barriers to participating in large events. Medical care, mobility challenges, and the need for specialized equipment can make outings feel overwhelming. Research shows that a staggering 65.3% of families with medically dependent children find it extremely difficult to attend public events, while 51.3% feel isolated from society. These barriers not only restrict access to social activities but also limit opportunities for connection, new experiences, and joy.
