Introducing the Sophisticated Upcycled Cherry Blossom Scarf by BELLUSTAR TOKYO

The Unique Upcycled Cherry Blossom Scarf from BELLUSTAR TOKYO

BELLUSTAR TOKYO, located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is set to launch its second iteration of the "Sakura Upcycle Project" with an exquisite scarf made from upcycled cherry blossoms. From January 20, 2026, only 40 pieces of this unique scarf will be available for purchase, priced at 22,000 yen (including tax).

The project aims to repurpose cherry blossoms that would ordinarily be discarded after decorating the hotel. By giving them new life through the skilled hands of Japanese artisans, it embodies a commitment to sustainability. Following the successful release of a cherry blossom fan in March 2025, BELLUSTAR TOKYO has once again partnered with the renowned textile brand, Watanabe Textile from Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, to craft a luxurious scarf that adds a touch of elegance to any winter outfit.

Eco-friendly Materials and Traditional Craftsmanship

This luxurious scarf is made from high-quality natural materials, 100% derived from Cupro and Australian lambswool. Cupro is a regenerated fiber made from the soft fluff surrounding cotton seeds, known for its silky texture and low static. The lambswool is harvested from Merino lambs, ensuring a finer and lighter feel compared to regular wool, along with excellent insulation and moisture-retaining properties.

The scarf features a delicate cherry blossom hue, carefully dyed using the branches of cherry blossoms that adorned the hotel in spring 2025. Benefiting from Watanabe Textile's advanced weaving techniques, the scarf achieves a soft thickness and gentle texture. This product embodies the spirit of 'Mottainai' (the concept of waste not, want not) and represents an exquisite showcase of Japanese artistry.

Collaboration with Watanabe Textile

Watanabe Textile, based at the foot of Mt. Fuji in the textile town of Fujiyoshida, embraces modern design and texture inspired by nature. Having previously collaborated on the fan project, their expertise in weaving has played a pivotal role in creating this original scarf. The philosophy of Ryusuke Watanabe, focusing on sustainability and embodying the colors and textures of nature, is vividly expressed in this project.

About the Sakura Upcycle Project

Cherry blossoms symbolize the essence of Japanese spring. With an increase in inbound tourism, many visitors come to Japan seeking the beauty of cherry blossoms. To enhance their hotel experience, BELLUSTAR TOKYO initiated a project to decorate the hotel with real cherry blossoms. The luxurious decor has garnered high praise as a representation of Japan's seasonal beauty, especially from overseas guests, with around 90% of hotel occupants being international travelers.

For about a month, guests can enjoy a stunning display of various cherry blossom varieties, replaced according to their blooming times. Following the spring displays, the project sought to find sustainable methods to utilize the vast number of leftover blossoms, leading to the launch of the project in April 2024. The contented cherry blossoms that adorned the hotel were transformed into the "Cherry Blossom Dyed Fan" released in March 2025.

The scarf also serves as a tangible memory of their travels, offering a unique sustainable item that tells the story of the "decorated cherry blossoms" and embodies the skills of Japanese artisans.

Upcoming Plans

In spring 2026, guests can once again look forward to the hotel's stunning cherry blossom decorations. Guests staying during this time will receive a postcard made from recycled cherry blossoms by Nishijima Washi as a special token. The postcard features an illustration by Shinji Tsuchimochi, depicting the view from hotel rooms enhanced by cherry blossoms, creating a unique art piece commemorating their stay.
