On July 2, 2025, the State University of Rio de Janeiro hosted the BRICS edition of the Dialogue of Civilizations, attracting more than 300 participants from Brazil, China, Russia, South Africa, and India.
This significant gathering was themed around "Strengthening Cultural Relations Between BRICS Nations for a Better Future for the Global South." During the opening address, a representative from the Information Office of the State Council stressed that the interpersonal exchanges among BRICS countries extend beyond mere dialogue across borders and cultures. They serve as a potent symbol of solidarity and shared development within the Global South. As BRICS cooperation enters a new phase, the focus on sustainable cultural exchange and mutual learning is crucial for enhancing the depth and effectiveness of BRICS-Plus collaborations.
Tia Ju, Vice President of the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro, remarked on the contemporary world's pressing challenges, such as climate change, social inequalities, and geopolitical conflicts, emphasizing that BRICS nations represent the voice of the Global South. In this context, the deepening of civilizational dialogue is vital. Culture unites individuals and fosters understanding. She noted, "When we respect the differences of others and celebrate global solidarity, we lay the groundwork for a sustainable future based on peace, empathy, and shared prosperity."
The event kicked off with a vibrant medley of BRICS popular songs performed by the Copacabana Fort Orchestra. Esteemed athletes, business leaders, and young professionals from BRICS nations shared personal stories that illustrated the resilience, unity, and collaborative spirit pursued by the people within these countries.
