Fireaway Secures Marine Equipment Certifications for Stat-X® Fire Extinguishing Systems
Fireaway Inc. recently announced a significant milestone in fire safety with the achievement of type approval for their Stat-X® condensed aerosol fire-extinguishing systems. This approval, granted by Bureau Veritas, follows an extensive evaluation process in accordance with MSC.1/Circ.1270, which ensures compliance with international maritime safety standards.
Overview of Type Approvals
The certification received encompasses three crucial areas: global markets, the European Union, and the United Kingdom. Specifically, the approval validates that the Stat-X® systems meet the requirements set forth by SOLAS (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea) regulations and various other international codes, such as the FSS Code and HSC Codes from both 1994 and 2000.
The Bureau Veritas Type Approval Certificate, numbered 23277/D1 BV, certifies that these systems are fit for use in SOLAS-regulated environments and is effective until October 22, 2030. Furthermore, an EC Type Examination Certificate (81823/A0 MED) has been issued under the EU Marine Equipment Directive, effective until April 8, 2031. In addition, a UK Type-Examination Certificate (81824/A0 UK) has been granted following the UK's Merchant Shipping Regulations, also valid until April 8, 2031.
Enhancing Marine Fire Safety
Lance Harry, President and CEO of Fireaway Inc., emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, "This approval confirms that Stat-X systems meet defined evaluation criteria for use in marine applications subject to SOLAS requirements. It also reflects the structured process through which performance validation, technical assessment, and certification come together in practice."
The type approval extends to 15 different generator models available in both electrical (E-series) and thermal (T-series) activation versions. These systems are particularly designed for machinery enclosed marine machinery spaces, facilitating improved fire safety in such environments.
Functionality and Applications
Stat-X condensed aerosol systems are engineered for enclosed and specialized environments where a non-conductive, compact fire suppression solution is crucial. Their application is versatile, making them suitable for various marine spaces, including:
- - Machinery compartments
- - Control cabinets
- - Auxiliary equipment enclosures
With the necessary certifications now in effect, Fireaway is strategically positioned to enhance fire safety across a multitude of SOLAS-governed projects worldwide. This advancement aligns with the increasing demand for sophisticated fire safety technologies in the maritime industry.
