Inoca and Sumitomo Riko Join Forces to Promote Nature-Positive Initiatives

Inoca and Sumitomo Riko's Partnership

Inoca Co., Ltd., headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, has recently announced its collaboration with Sumitomo Riko Co., Ltd., based in Nakamura, Nagoya. The primary goal of this partnership is to promote initiatives toward a nature-positive society and achieve human coexistence with nature.

Founded in 2019, Inoca operates under the mission of "Increasing humanity's choices and creating a world where both people and nature can thrive." Since its inception, the company has strived to establish itself as a comprehensive professional group in the natural environment sector. Inoca works collaboratively with various sectors, including government, academia, and businesses, to promote sustainable initiatives aimed at creating a richer Earth.

The company's strengths lie in its team of experts specializing in various aquatic and terrestrial life forms, such as coral, mangroves, and freshwater species like the Medaka and Gengoro. This diverse group of researchers excels in environmental sciences and environmental business practices. Moreover, Inoca has developed a unique technology known as "Environmental Transfer Technology®," which allows for the recreation of any ecological system within a tank. Inoca's partnerships extend across vast geographical areas, enabling a holistic approach to support clients in generating new business opportunities. To date, Inoca has launched 232 tanks for 149 companies, conducted 51 research projects, executed 22 field surveys, and provided educational training for over 20,000 participants.

On the other hand, the Sumitomo Riko Group has established its vision for environmental sustainability through its "Sumitomo Riko Environmental Long-Term Vision 2050," which aims to contribute to a decarbonized society, a resource-circulating society, and a nature-coexisting society. They leverage their core competencies in polymer materials technology and comprehensive evaluation techniques to address various social challenges. Through this collaboration, Inoca's "Environmental Transfer Technology®" will be combined with Sumitomo Riko's cutting-edge technologies and materials, paving the way for new business opportunities that promote nature-positive solutions in marine environments.

This partnership marks a critical step toward addressing escalating ocean issues and achieving a sustainable society. The oceans cover about 70% of the Earth's surface, facing challenges like rising seawater temperatures, ocean acidification, and pollution from plastic waste. Additionally, these issues are causing coral reef death and declines in fish populations. In response, both companies are committed to driving innovative technology development that contributes to marine environmental conservation and sustainable utilization.

Future Initiatives

Currently, Inoca is leveraging its "Environmental Transfer Technology®" to assess the properties of Sumitomo Riko's materials. They are poised to collaboratively develop new materials tailored for marine environments, drawing on diverse experimental data to launch products aimed at marine conservation and sustainability.

Furthermore, Inoca will spearhead the "Mikawa Bay Beach Forum," with participation from Sumitomo Riko starting in March 2025. This forum aims to foster open innovation among diverse partners in the marine sector and accelerate the efforts stemming from this collaboration.

The Mikawa Bay Symposium will focus on the unique characteristics of the Mikawa Bay region, gathering local businesses and startups to explore the connection between regional industry and the marine environment. Through discussions and presentations, they aim to establish a regional model benefiting both the ecological and economic landscape of Mikawa Bay.

During the first symposium held on March 28, 2025, in Toyohashi City, the focus will be on Inoca's efforts for seagrass restoration through the "Beach Forum," highlighting possibilities for sustainable economic activities centered around the marine resources of Mikawa Bay.

Statements from Inoca

Shiki Takeuchi, COO of Inoca, remarked, "We are honored to partner with Sumitomo Riko, a company with nearly a century of history that has consistently met societal needs with innovative products. By combining our Environmental Transfer Technology with Sumitomo Riko's expertise in polymer materials, we can address complex marine challenges and accelerate our efforts toward achieving nature-positive outcomes.
