Three Must-Try Winter Udon Dishes Released by Udon no Shikoku

Discover the Winter Delights of Udon no Shikoku

As temperatures drop and the chill of winter sets in, there's nothing quite like a warm bowl of udon to satisfy your cravings. Since its inception in 1966 in Marugame City, Kagawa Prefecture—a region famed for its Sanuki udon—Udon no Shikoku has been dedicated to sharing the rich flavors of this beloved noodle dish. From November 19 onward, diners will be able to enjoy three special winter menu items designed to warm the heart and soul.

A Trio of Culinary Comforts

1. Nabeyaki Udon (四國名物鍋焼きうどん)
Price: ¥1,380 (Tax included: ¥1,518)
This classic hot udon dish is a staple for winter dining. Cooked in a traditional donabe (earthenware pot), it comes packed with an array of fresh ingredients, making it ideal for those chilly days. Perfectly comforting, it has become a signature offering at Udon no Shikoku.

2. Miso Simmered Udon with Oysters (牡蠣入り味噌煮込みうどん)
Price: ¥1,480 (Tax included: ¥1,628)
This unique dish combines succulent oysters with a special blend of three miso types, creating a rich, savory flavor that shines during the winter months. The harmonious blend pairs delightfully with the udon, providing an exquisite dining experience.

3. Pork Belly and Burdock Nabeyaki Udon (豚バラ肉とごぼうの鍋焼きうどん)
Price: ¥1,380 (Tax included: ¥1,518)
The robust flavor of pork belly combined with the earthiness of burdock root creates a mouthwatering broth. Served with crispy lettuce cooked in the pot, this dish guarantees a satisfying warmth from within.

These three dishes are available for a limited time, from November 19, 2023, to March 15, 2024, inviting you to immerse yourself in the cozy flavors of winter.

A Legacy of Quality and Tradition

Udon no Shikoku stands out not just for its delicious udon, but also for its history and commitment to quality. The restaurant was the first self-service udon eatery in the Sanuki region, where diners could take their noodles and prepare them to their liking—an innovative concept at the time.

In 2000, the establishment evolved into an udon izakaya, serving traditional udon dishes by day while transforming into a vibrant nightlife venue, offering yakitori and handmade tofu by night. They emphasize local, quality ingredients in their dishes, from high-grade dried sardines sourced from the Seto Inland Sea to naturally harvested sea salt from the same region.

Udon no Shikoku is not just about serving dishes but elevating the dining experience. They believe the essence of good udon lies in the dashi (broth), which they meticulously prepare to enhance the umami profile of their bowls.
