Assaí Reports 55% Surge in Profit Alongside Strategic Deleveraging

Assaí Financial Results Report - Q3 2026

Assaí's recent financial report for the third quarter of 2026 reveals noteworthy growth and resilience in a challenging consumer environment. The Brazilian retailer recorded a remarkable 55.2% increase in adjusted recurring net income, totaling R$ 248 million compared to the same quarter last year. Notably, the accounting net income surged to R$ 427 million, marking a 119% rise driven by substantial extemporaneous tax credits of R$ 179 million related to PIS/COFINS.

In an atmosphere of rising household debt, Assaí managed to increase customer traffic by 2.1%, successfully attracting over 40 million customers each month. This increase in footfall contributed to a gross revenue of R$ 21.3 billion, reflecting a 2.7% growth attributed to an enhanced gross margin of 17.2%—up by 0.45 percentage points—and strict expense controls that grew at only 4.2%.

Despite reaching growth amidst economic challenges characterized by an inflation rate of 4.4%, Assaí's adjusted EBITDA remained stable at R$ 1.1 billion, equating to a 5.7% margin. Strong cash flow generation also emerged as a cornerstone for the company's ongoing success, reporting R$ 3.3 billion over the last twelve months. This operational efficiency allowed Assaí to effectively reduce its leverage ratio to 2.15x, down from 3.03x in the same quarter last year.

Belmiro Gomes, CEO of Assaí, emphasized the company's dedication to maintaining its operational integrity, stating, “The third quarter demonstrated Assaí's ability to safeguard operations and focus on controllable variables like top-line growth, stable market share, and profitability.” Gomes also reiterated the commitment to cash generation, competitive pricing, and financial discipline as the foundation of their future business strategies.

Ecosystem Expansion Initiatives

Parallel to these financial successes, Assaí has taken significant steps towards enhancing its business ecosystem. The company has expanded its healthcare segment, Assaí Farma, which now includes 11 units in São Paulo—opened between July and November—with aspirations to reach 25 pharmacies by December. Additionally, the launch of an e-commerce platform within the 'Meu Assaí' app featuring in-store pickup options marks a substantial step toward modernization and convenience.

Assaí also aims to bolster its dietary supplement offerings, planning to feature these products in 300 stores. In terms of product diversity under its Private Label, over 30 new items were introduced in this quarter alone, bringing the total to 140 SKUs across various brands, with projections to reach 250 SKUs by year-end.

The digital sales landscape has not been left behind, as last-mile sales saw explosive growth of 204% across 104 stores. Moreover, the acquisition of 18 gas stations in São Paulo positions Assaí to tap into new convenience sectors, with expectations to commence operations by August 2027.

In conclusion, the financial results for Q3 2026 underscore Assaí's dynamic response to market pressures while enhancing its operational framework. The strategic focus on expanding service offerings and maintaining fiscal health lays the groundwork for sustained growth moving forward.
