AI's Transformative Role in Workplaces: Is Teamwork at Risk?

The Impact of AI on Team Collaboration

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is swiftly changing the dynamics of collaboration within the workplace, and while the initial response from many companies is positive, there are notable concerns about its potential drawbacks. Recent findings from a survey conducted by Express Employment Professionals and Harris Poll reveal that a majority of employers recognize the advantages of AI in improving collaboration, yet a significant portion is anxious about the long-term implications on teamwork and creativity.

According to the survey,
  • - 73% of hiring decision-makers believe AI has boosted productivity among employees working together.
  • - 72% reported enhanced ease of real-time collaboration.
  • - 65% noted an increase in the frequency of employee interactions and collaboration.
  • - Additionally, 65% mentioned a rise in coworkers reaching out for help more often.

Job seekers also report similar sentiments; 68% affirm that AI improves productivity, while 63% find real-time collaboration easier. Surprisingly, 60% reveal that they are more inclined to seek help from colleagues owing to AI integration.

Examples showcasing AI's potential in enhancing collaboration are evident. For instance, AI tools now provide real-time meeting summaries and track action items efficiently. This not only keeps teams organized but simultaneously reduces the clutter typically associated with email communications. Furthermore, tools that offer instant feedback on ideas can assist teams in refining their thoughts without interrupting the workflow, catering especially well to multilingual teams with real-time translation capabilities.

However, this progression is not without its challenges. Over 80% of hiring managers express fears regarding AI's evolving influence in their organizations. Concerns include:
  • - 43% worrying about diminished creativity.
  • - 41% fearing a reduction in communication among employees.
  • - 39% alarmed by a potential decline in problem-solving abilities.
  • - Surprisingly, over half, 55%, are apprehensive that AI might ultimately replace the necessity for collaboration entirely.

This trend extends beyond the employers' concerns. Job seekers exhibit similar worries, with 60% fearing losing the need for idea sharing due to AI's prevalence, and 48% suggesting that teamwork could vanish altogether in the next five years.

Bob Funk Jr., the CEO of Express Employment International, emphasizes the importance of collaboration stating, “While AI has the potential to alleviate repetitive tasks and remove obstacles, it should never overshadow the creative synergy and trust developed through human interaction. The challenge lies in leveraging AI to tighten, not sever, the bonds of collaboration.”

This survey was conducted online across the United States from June 2 to June 28, 2025, targeting 1,000 hiring decision-makers and a separate survey involving 1,000 adults aged 18 and older from June 12 to June 27, 2025. These findings leave us contemplating the future landscape of workplace collaboration, revealing a crucial dialogue between technological advancement and the irreplaceable nature of human interaction in fostering teamwork.

As organizations adapt to these changes, understanding how best to integrate AI without sacrificing the fundamental aspects of creativity and collaboration will be essential. The dialogue between AI's capabilities and human interaction continues to develop, shaping the future of teamwork in unprecedented ways.
