BRP Unveils Winners of the 6th International Design Challenge



BRP Inc. recently celebrated the winners of its 6th International Design Challenge, held in the enchanting city of Rovaniemi, Finland. This year’s competition gathered around 70 talented students from eight prestigious universities across Finland, Canada, the US, France, and the UK. The challenge revolved around creating advanced vehicle architecture for emergency response vehicles (ERV), integrating essential Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.

Organized in conjunction with Arctic Design Week, this event was officially endorsed by the World Design Organization. It offered students a unique opportunity to cultivate their design thinking and creative skills while being mentored by both academic and professional design experts. Denys Lapointe, Chief Design Officer at BRP, expressed his admiration for the talents displayed, emphasizing the significance of collaborating across age groups in shaping the future of mobility.

The Victors of Innovation


The design challenge attracted remarkable submissions, with 10 finalists being selected from nearly 70 ideas. At least one participant from each university was among the finalists, allowing them to experience a week of networking, learning, and exposure to the rich design culture of northern Finland. The winners were recognized at the Arctic Design Week Goes Campus event.

First Prize: Valentin Leboucher

The top honor went to Valentin Leboucher from Rubika in France, whose ingenious two-in-one vehicle concept to combat wildfires won over the jury. His design allows two passengers to safely approach fire zones before transforming into a protective base for remotely operating a hose-carrying rover. This innovative approach impressed judges with its comprehensive design and real-world applicability. As part of his reward, Valentin is set to embark on a six-month paid internship at BRP’s Design Innovation Center in Valcourt, Canada.

Second Prize: Kirtish Gaood

The second-place award was presented to Kirtish Gaood from the College for Creative Studies in the US. His concept aimed at addressing mudslides in Northern India, drawing inspiration from Sherpa culture, which embodies agility and resilience. The design is characterized by a minimalist architecture designed for better navigation through rugged terrains, allowing swift evacuation during emergencies. Kirtish was awarded a monetary prize of 3,000 euros for his innovative approach.

Third Prize: Antoine Rupp

Antoine Rupp, also from Rubika in France, captured third place with a concept focused on providing solutions during flood situations. His design showcases a deep compassion for victims in distress, featuring a vehicle equipped with independently suspended linkages to ensure a smooth transport experience, ultimately aiding lifesaving operations. Antoine received 1,500 euros for his thoughtful and practical design.
