Mirantis Enhances Membership to Gold in Cloud Native Computing Foundation
Mirantis Upgrades to Gold Membership in CNCF
In a significant move for the cloud native community, Mirantis, a long-standing member of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), has upgraded its membership from Silver to Gold. This transition marks a new chapter in Mirantis' dedication to enhancing open-source technology and the Kubernetes ecosystem.
Founded in 2016 as a CNCF member, Mirantis has always aimed to empower organizations by providing complete control over their strategic infrastructures through open-source solutions. Their latest upgrade to Gold membership is not just a recognition of their status but also a commitment to deepening their investment in cloud-native technologies.
According to Randy Bias, Mirantis’ Vice President of Open Source Strategy and Technology, this upgrade is part of their vision to operate as a fully open-source company. "We’re doubling down on our commitment to open source and the CNCF ecosystems," he said. "We plan to announce a new open-source project that will enhance our existing offerings and contribute meaningfully to Kubernetes."
Mirantis is known for their ability to accelerate time-to-value for businesses, simplifying the deployment and management of modern workloads across various environments. By focusing on intelligent automation and cloud-native expertise, they have established a strong reputation in managing virtual machines, containers, and Kubernetes environments.
Every single product from Mirantis is designed around Kubernetes or its related technologies. Their offerings include Mirantis OpenStack on Kubernetes (MOSK) and the Mirantis Kubernetes Engine (MKE). Furthermore, they’ve recently transitioned to using Harbor for their Mirantis Secure Registry (MSR), reinforcing their dedication to the Kubernetes ecosystem.
As an active supporter of open-source projects, Mirantis contributes to over 50 projects, guided by their Open Source Program Office. Notably, they created k0s, a Kubernetes distribution optimized for edge workloads, alongside k0smotron, designed for Kubernetes control plane operations. The success of these projects illustrates the company’s commitment to innovation within the cloud-native space.
Mirantis combines its cloud-native technologies with various existing CNCF projects including OpenTelemetry, Project Sveltos, KubeVirt, Rook, and Calico, thereby enriching the overall ecosystem. Their proactive approach in contributing to these areas ensures that they stay at the forefront of the ever-evolving cloud-native landscape.
Chris Anizczyk, CTO of CNCF, expressed enthusiasm for Mirantis' upgraded status. "They have been instrumental in advancing the cloud-native ecosystem, and welcomed their transition to a Gold member. We anticipate their ongoing involvement and support," he remarked.
As part of their new chapter, Mirantis will showcase their latest innovations at the upcoming KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe, to be held in London from April 1 to 4, 2025. The upgrade to Gold membership emphasizes their active role in shaping the future of open-source technologies.
The CNCF serves as a platform for various organizations, helping them build and run scalable applications using open-source software stacks across public, private, and hybrid clouds. With more than 800 members, including major cloud computing and software companies, CNCF stands as a crucial part of the Linux Foundation's ecosystem.
In conclusion, Mirantis’ membership upgrade reflects not only their growing influence in the cloud-native space but also their unwavering commitment to open-source principles. As they continue to innovate and lead in this sector, the tech community eagerly awaits their future contributions.
