Toshiba Tec Collaborates with Dentsu for Retail Media Advancement
Toshiba Tec Corporation, headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, led by President Hiroshi Nishikori, along with Toshiba Data Corporation, whose CEO is Hiroaki Kitagawa, have announced a partnership with Dentsu Inc., under the leadership of President Suke Sano. The objective of this collaboration is to gain insights into consumer behavioral changes based on customer attributes through an experimental consumer acceptance program related to their reward campaign.
Beginning on February 17, 2025, Toshiba Tec and Toshiba Data have initiated the "Smart Receipt®" electronic receipt service, powered by Toshiba Tec’s development and operations, with support from Toshiba Data. This program also utilizes the receipt-scanning budgeting app, "Receipt Scan," which is developed and operated by Toshiba Data. The first phase of the reward campaign attracted participation from three consumer goods manufacturers, representing four brands, targeting consumers regardless of their attributes while analyzing purchasing motives and purchasing behavior.
To acquire deeper insights into behavioral changes among various customer attributes, the second phase of the reward campaign will launch on July 3, 2025, with contributions from consumer goods manufacturers. Specifics include optimized customer targeting based on user attributes, the determination of reward rates, and an analysis of behavioral changes among consumers. By implementing advertising and promotional initiatives tailored to product characteristics, the program aims to quantitatively assess the impact of advertising and promotional activities on purchasing behavior.
Participating Companies in Phase Two of the Reward Campaign
- - Mizkan Holdings Ltd. offers products like the refreshing apple vinegar and honey apple, among others. As of July 2, 2025, there are currently four companies participating, with plans for expansion.

- - Toshiba Tec: Oversees planning and execution of the program, providing the Smart Receipt® platform and analyzing purchase data.
- - Toshiba Data: Supplies the Receipt Scan platform and conducts purchase data analysis.

Through this program, Toshiba Tec and Toshiba Data, in partnership with Dentsu, aim to enhance retail media strategies and deepen consumer understanding while creating new value for the retail industry, consumer goods manufacturers, and consumers alike.
