Miles for Military: Bringing Joy to Active-Duty Marines This Holiday Season
Miles for Military Brings Home Marines for the Holidays
The holiday season is a time for families to gather and celebrate together, but for many active-duty military personnel, distance and financial constraints make this challenging. Enter Miles for Military, a Boston-based nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing junior active-duty enlisted service members home to their families for significant occasions, including holidays.
Recently, Miles for Military successfully orchestrated the flights of two Marines, Private First Class Antonio Marcucci and Corporal Nicolas Serret, back to Massachusetts. Their emotional reunions at Boston's Logan Airport were just the beginning, as the organization aims to fly more than 30 service members home across the United States before Christmas.
Founded by Maureen Byrne, the organization was established out of a personal experience that highlighted the difficulties service members face. After flying her son Ronan back from his base, Maureen realized how financially burdensome it can be for junior enlisted personnel to reunite with family. With many having not seen their loved ones for extended periods, she felt compelled to create a solution.
Contributing to the community through volunteer work, Miles for Military provides airfare to enlisted members in exchange for their service to charities of their choice. This approach helps raise awareness and funding for the nonprofit while making significant family reunions possible.
