Jennifer Briggs Takes the Helm as Executive Director of ACTEC

The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) recently announced Jennifer Briggs as the new Executive Director, a position she will officially assume on September 9, 2026. This appointment marks a significant leadership transition for the organization, succeeding Deborah (Deb) McKinnon, who is retiring after an impressive 17 years at the helm. Under McKinnon’s stewardship, ACTEC significantly grew its impact and legacy, making it a prominent entity in the field of trusts and estates.

A Legacy of Leadership

Briggs comes to ACTEC with an extensive background in association leadership, having served as the Executive Vice President and CEO of the Texas Society of Architects, a professional association with nearly 8,000 members. Her tenure there since 2021 demonstrated her capabilities in leading strategic, operational, and financial initiatives, bringing the organization into alignment with its long-term priorities. Notably, Briggs managed a $6 million budget and a hybrid team of both professional staff and consultants, showcasing her adeptness in resource allocation and organizational management.

Before her role in Texas, she devoted nearly two decades to the Indiana CPA Society, gradually ascending through various leadership roles until she became the President and CEO. Her career has been characterized by a reputation for strategic leadership, operational excellence, and a focus on innovative, member-centric programs that foster organizational growth and vitality.

As ACTEC faces this pivotal transition, current President Margaret (Meg) G. Lodise acknowledged Deb McKinnon’s extraordinary contributions, stating, “Deb McKinnon’s leadership has helped shape ACTEC into the organization it is today.
