Expanding Access to Legal Education: A New Pathway for Ambitious Students

This collaboration is part of the Admission Innovation Project, a unique initiative designed to transform the admissions landscape for aspiring law students.

At the heart of this project is VLGS's Advanced Master of Legal Studies (AMLS) program. This program is strategically designed for individuals who may not meet the traditional admission criteria for Juris Doctor (J.D.) programs but exhibit the potential to succeed in legal studies. Through a comprehensive educational framework, students enrolled in the AMLS program are provided not only with a tailored coursework experience but also with academic support and mentorship aimed at honing their skills and knowledge.

Upon completing their first semester successfully, students have the option to either join the J.D. cohort or focus on their Master of Legal Studies.

Research conducted by AccessLex, in partnership with participating schools, aims to investigate the effects of innovative admissions models on student access, diversity within classes, and overall academic performance.

The proposals for the Admission Innovation Project are evaluated on a rolling basis and can span up to 24 months. AccessLex not only provides funding but also research expertise to law school partners, allowing them to refine their approaches and enhance their admissions practices.
