UFP Industries Announces a Strategic Expansion of Packaging Capacity in South Carolina

UFP Industries' New Manufacturing Facility in South Carolina

UFP Industries, Inc., a key player in the manufacturing sector, has declared its intention to construct a new manufacturing facility for UFP Packaging in Cherokee County, South Carolina. This strategic move aims not only to enhance its Structural Packaging capabilities but also to offer customized and value-added packaging solutions to its diverse national industrial clientele. The anticipated project is projected to bring about 136 new job opportunities over the next five years and is an investment worth approximately $5.31 million in real estate and equipment.

The forthcoming facility will specialize in the production of wood packaging products. This expansion is crucial as it will enable UFP Packaging to better cater to industrial clients, particularly those with complex and technical requirements across the Southeast region and beyond. The President and CEO of UFP Industries, Will Schwartz, emphasized that this initiative represents a significant investment in their core businesses, which not only fulfills existing market demands but also positions the company for future growth.

"This project exemplifies our commitment to investing in higher-margin sectors while broadening our market capabilities," Schwartz stated. He highlighted the continuous progress made by the Structural Packaging division with key strategic customers in the industrial landscape. This expansion will not only augment capacity but also enhance UFP's geographical footprint, allowing the company to create highly tailored solutions for unique packaging and logistical challenges.

UFP Packaging is renowned for serving a variety of sectors, including industrial, manufacturing, and logistics, with a comprehensive range of packaging services such as structural solutions, pallet systems, and protective packaging. Specifically, its Structural Packaging sector designs and manufacturers custom solutions from wood, steel, foam, and mixed materials, addressing stringent shipping and storage demands.

According to Scott Worthington, President of UFP Packaging, the initiative underscores the interplay of the company’s scale, technical acumen, and strong customer relationships. "Our focus goes beyond mere packaging; it's about collaborating with our customers to understand the specifics of their products, their distribution streams, and potential transport risks, thus allowing us to create optimized packaging solutions," Worthington remarked.

The new facility will strategically place UFP Packaging nearer to essential industrial customers and transportation routes, improving flexibility and efficiency across its national network. This location choice is an integral part of UFP Industries' ongoing strategy to prioritize operational excellence and maximize the value of deployed capital.

Further elaborating on the project, Schwartz noted, "This endeavor is aligned with our strategic focus. It strengthens our core business and propels us towards above-market growth, ultimately improving our margins and returns while delivering substantial value to our customers, who are often trailblazers in their respective industries."

The establishment of the new facility is subject to customary approvals and final arrangements, but UFP Industries has expressed gratitude towards the Cherokee County and the State of South Carolina for their support. The company looks forward to building a robust team and operations in the area, fostering a workplace that invests in its employees by nurturing talent from within.
