PERSOL Group Collaborates on Advanced Service Research to Enhance Drone Delivery in Japan

In a significant move toward enhancing logistics efficiency in Japan, PERSOL Business Process Design, which is part of the PERSOL Group, has successfully completed a research initiative under the auspices of the Cabinet Office's study on 'Development and Construction of Advanced Services and Regulatory Reform.' This project, announced alongside EAMS Robotics, focuses on implementing on-demand delivery services using drones—a vital step in addressing the country's workforce shortages in logistics and maintaining services in depopulated areas.

The Japanese government designated Fukushima and Nagasaki as 'New Technology Implementation Collaboration Kizuna Special Zones' in June 2024, with the intention of pioneering convenient drone delivery services nationwide. In this project, EAMS Robotics and PERSOL Business Process Design conducted comprehensive investigations, validations, and analyses aimed at achieving Level 4 drone operations for on-demand deliveries.

As drones are poised to play a crucial role in logistics, it is essential to establish operational systems that allow for multi-route flights across various locations within the area. This entails designing service models, analyzing feasibility, and suggesting necessary regulatory reforms to facilitate this innovative logistics approach. The overarching goal is to create a sustainable regional logistics model that integrates drone technologies, addressing challenges posed by population decline and ensuring efficient delivery services from Fukushima to the rest of the country.

The outcomes of this project are groundbreaking. Key findings include insights into a sustainable service model for drone logistics that meets both business profitability requirements and community convenience needs. While there is significant demand for increased convenience, residents show considerable concern regarding privacy and the integrity of delivered items. The project not only highlights these issues but also suggests the establishment of clear standards to alleviate public concerns, thus gaining social acceptance for drone delivery services.

Furthermore, the study recognized the urgency for expanding logistics operations, especially in disaster scenarios where traditional channels may be disrupted. As a result, it emphasizes the need for risk assessment and safety measures focusing on the safe operation of drones over populated areas such as roads and railways. Addressing these multifaceted issues requires a collaborative approach involving various stakeholders to standardize operational rules and establish safe flight paths.

PERSOL Business Process Design is dedicated to advancing drone delivery services beyond this specific initiative. Through collaboration with client enterprises, the company effectively identifies unique requirements and fosters cooperation among stakeholders, enhancing operational efficiencies and facilitating rapid flight demonstrations. Their commitment to tackling social and industry challenges has positioned them as leaders in initiatives targeted toward new business development, technology advancement, and process design.

In addition to drone logistics, PERSOL partners with businesses and municipalities to deliver comprehensive services, including transporting goods between remote islands, distributing pharmaceuticals, and supporting emergency logistics during disasters. Their rich track record demonstrates their versatility in applying drone technology towards sustainable operational solutions.

As PERSOL continues to push the boundaries of logistics and other field operations into the digital era, they remain committed to providing high-quality drone solution services that create value for customers while addressing pressing social and industrial challenges. This ongoing commitment aims to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
