NABEP's Expanding Fleet: A Leap in Oil Production
In an exciting development for the oil industry, North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP) has announced a significant expansion of its drilling fleet in Venezuela. As of November 2026, the company’s local fleet will reach a total of 41 out of the 60 platforms that were previously announced earlier in the month. This expansion comes at a vital time as the company’s production has soared to impressive figures, topping
223,509 barrels of oil equivalent per day as of October 19, compared to approximately 200,000 barrels in August.
Fleet Details and Operations
NABEP currently operates nine drilling rigs, all actively engaged in developing new wells within Venezuela. Specifically, three of these rigs are operational in the Junín 10 block of the Orinoco Belt, another three are set to begin operations soon, and three are undergoing refurbishment or setup. Additionally, four other platforms are on their way from locations in Houston, Brazil, and Colombia, all targeting production from NABEP’s heavy oil reserves.
The company isn't just focused on new drilling. It also possesses
20 reconditioning units across Venezuela tasked with repairing existing wells and returning inactive or underperforming wells back to productivity. These units are strategically positioned with three in Lake Maracaibo, twelve in the Lagunillas and Bachaquero fields, and five in the Orinoco Belt. Furthermore, fifteen additional units are being refurbished in Houston, awaiting deployment in western Venezuela. All thirty-five units are currently undergoing a
Category 4 recertification, the highest level of inspection before being certified for use.
Financial Backing and Growth Strategy
This latest fleet enhancement marks the second upgrade for NABEP this year, having added
eleven 550-horsepower reconditioning units and two 1,500-horsepower drilling units in October. The growth strategy is centered around the financial backing sourced from the company's oil output. As CEO Alejandro Betancourt stated, they are effectively funding each of these platforms with the oil produced, applying a successful strategy that has helped them exponentially increase their production over a two-year period.
"NABEP is committed to injecting unprecedented capital into the long-ignored Venezuelan oil industry, thereby revitalizing the Venezuelan economy," Betancourt added. The company plans to concurrently invest in already developed lands ready for operation while also venturing into the more challenging unexplored areas, positioning itself uniquely to tackle these tasks by being rooted in Venezuela and powered by a local workforce.
The Bigger Picture: Strategic Agreements
The new equipment addition follows a pivotal agreement made in August 2026 between NABEP and the U.S. Departments of State and War, which aims to significantly elevate oil production levels in Venezuela. The
first million barrels of oil resulting from this agreement reached Corpus Christi, Texas, on October 27.
With a workforce consisting of
5,000 employees supporting 10,000 contract staff in Venezuela, NABEP has enhanced its production capability from around 18,000 barrels per day to over 200,000 within two years, chiefly through investments amounting to approximately
$1 billion financed by the company.
Additionally, the approach to finance ongoing production boosts has seen hundreds of millions of dollars being reinvested each month into the business. NABEP controls marketing rights to over
65 billion barrels of 1P oil reserves in Venezuela and is poised to invest nearly
$100 billion to ramp up production capacity and improve vital oil and gas infrastructure. The focus in the short term is on scaling production to over
1 million barrels per day, reflecting a robust trajectory for the company.
