Gurunavi, Inc. is set to unveil a captivating exhibition at MAISON & OBJET Paris 2026, scheduled from September 10 to 14, 2026. The centerpiece is the pavilion entitled "JAPAN WOOD x CRAFTSMANSHIP", dedicated to showcasing the ancient Japanese craft of Odate Magewappa. This traditional artistry boasts a remarkable history of over 1,000 years, with roots tracing back to archaeological finds from the 10th century.

A Glimpse of Odate Magewappa

Visitors to the pavilion will have the unique opportunity to watch live demonstrations conducted by Yoshimasa Shibata, one of only sixteen certified traditional craftsmen of Odate Magewappa in Japan. Shibata will perform intricate techniques such as Mage-kakou, where he bends natural cedar wood using hot water, aided only by his skillful intuition, and Kaba-toji, which involves stitching seams with wild cherry bark.

The demonstrations are not only a display of fantastic craftsmanship but also an interactive experience that allows the audience to engage closely with the artistry. This process highlights the craftsmanship needed to create durable and aesthetically pleasing products, drawing attention to the natural beauty of the materials used.
