The Grand Opening of Alum Rock Health Center
On September 2, 2025, Gardner Health Services celebrated the grand opening of the Alum Rock Health Center, located at 1783 Alum Rock Ave., Suite 50 in East San José. This newly established facility is part of the broader revitalization project for the Mayfair neighborhood and aims to provide essential medical, dental, mental health, and chiropractic services to the local community.
Spanning an impressive 10,080 square feet, the center stands as a beacon of hope and health for residents, regardless of their financial situations, insurance status, or other factors like race, religion, or homelessness. Dr. Ranjani Chandramouli, Chief Medical Officer at Gardner Health Services, emphasized its role, stating, "The Alum Rock Health Center is more than just a medical facility; it symbolizes the resilience and shared future of the Mayfair community. Here, we merge accessible, high-quality healthcare with creative expression to foster a new nexus of wellbeing and cultural pride."
This multi-million dollar investment is designed not only to enhance healthcare access but also to spur economic activity within the proposed Cultural District of La Avenida. This initiative, driven by community participation, celebrates the rich heritage of East San José and its residents.
Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, who secured a crucial federal allocation of $1 million for the health center, praised the collaborative effort behind it, saying, "The Alum Rock Health Center will provide vital services that directly address the needs of San José residents, thus building a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone. I am proud to have played a role in delivering critical funding for this facility and will continue to support efforts that maintain and expand care for California's 18th District."
The opening of the center has garnered support from numerous key partners, including the School of Arts and Culture, Santa Clara County, the City of San José, The Health Trust, and various community organizations such as Si Se Puede Collective. Santa Clara County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg remarked, "For generations, the Mayfair community has been the backbone of Silicon Valley. By investing in this area, we are supporting the very individuals who have fortified this region, addressing health disparities, and expanding access to preventive care while promoting holistic health for our neighbors."
About Gardner Health Services
Gardner Health Services has a long history of delivering healthcare to underserved communities. Established in 1967 in Alviso, it began as a community health clinic aimed at bridging the gap in care for Mexican migrant workers. As services expanded into San José, the name transformed to Family Health Foundation of Alviso, Inc. Concurrently, a group in the Gardner neighborhood, with assistance from the School of Medicine at Stanford and the Sacred Heart Church, initiated the Gardner Health Center to aid factory workers.
In 1997, both organizations united to form Gardner Family Health Network, Inc., now operating as Gardner Health Services. The organization serves over 43,000 patients across Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, supported by an operational budget of $103.5 million. For more details, visit
