California Fire Foundation Promotes Wildfire Preparedness

As California enters May, the California Fire Foundation (CFF) takes this opportunity to declare it Wildfire Preparedness Month. This initiative serves as a powerful reminder for all residents to prepare adequately for the ongoing wildfire threats that face the state, while also honoring the courage of firefighters who risk their lives daily. The current wildfire reality in California is alarming: more than 1,000 wildfires have burned over 61,000 acres as of April 2025. The combination of climate change and a prolonged drought means that these disasters are becoming a year-round threat, prompting the need for constant vigilance and preparation.

The Importance of Preparedness

Over 25% of Californians are living in high-risk wildfire zones, according to Cal OES statistics, making the significance of year-round preparedness more crucial than ever. Brian K. Rice, the Chair of the California Fire Foundation and President of California Professional Firefighters, emphasizes, "Wildfire season used to run from July through October—now it's every month of the year.
