Rebirth of Uohachitei: Welcoming New Beginnings as Uohachiya
Uohachitei has officially transformed into Uohachiya, embracing a fresh perspective on dining while showcasing the unique flavors of Hachijo Island. The restaurant aims to offer a delightful experience for all guests by making the exquisite local ingredients more accessible and enjoyable. The staff is committed to sharing the love and spirit of hospitality that characterize Hachijo Island, along with its natural bounty.
One of the highlights of Uohachiya is its commitment to serving fresh, locally caught fish. The restaurant sources over five varieties of fish directly from local fishermen, ensuring the highest quality and freshness. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared to preserve the integrity of the ingredients while offering a range of cooking methods tailored to the preferences of the diners.
Uohachiya’s new sign features a design inspired by the tuna caught in the nearby waters, signaling a commitment to quality seafood. The menu has also been completely revamped, taking customer convenience into account. Guests can now easily view the size and type of each dish from a specially crafted menu at their table. Additionally, by using their mobile phones, diners can access photos and honest reviews of the meals, enabling them to make informed decisions about what to order.
The restaurant prides itself on inclusivity; efforts have been made to accommodate guests with wheelchairs, ensuring that pathways are accessible. Every day, from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM, Uohachiya offers a wide range of local dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients, including fried and grilled seafood, main courses, salads, and desserts.
Among the standout offerings is the exclusive “Uohachi Kaisen Don,” a dish rarely found elsewhere in Japan. Composed of delectable rice from Yamagata Prefecture, topped with artistic layers of various sashimi, it’s a creation that aims to impress guests with its presentation and flavor. The chef personally recommends this signature dish, ensuring anyone who tries it will leave satisfied.
Despite being on a remote island, which contributes to higher logistics costs, Uohachiya strives to maintain reasonable prices by minimizing waste and inefficiencies. The team's goal is to create memorable moments for customers, turning visits to the restaurant into cherished memories.
The restaurant encourages visitors to inquire about Hachijo Island and its culture, reflecting a desire to share everything the island offers.
New Operating Hours: Beginning May 21, 2025, Uohachiya will operate under revised hours based on customer requests. The establishment will now welcome guests continuously from 8:30 AM until 2:00 AM, ensuring availability every day of the year, providing peace of mind for diners.
If you find yourself visiting Hachijo Island, make sure to stop by Uohachiya!
