Reju Partners with Cibutex for Circular Textile Ecosystem
In a landmark collaboration, Reju™, a pioneering company focused on textile-to-textile recovery, has announced a partnership with Cibutex, an association dedicated to creating a sustainable textile supply chain. This alliance marks a significant step towards establishing a circular ecosystem among Cibutex's member companies.
The partnership will enable Reju to procure secondary raw materials sourced from textile waste produced by consumer goods, which will be utilized for recycling and the production of Reju Polyester™, an innovative material. Through advanced textile recycling technology, Reju aims to foster circular regeneration, aligning with its mission to transform textile waste into valuable resources.
Reju stands at the forefront of global infrastructure for large-scale textile waste recovery, starting with polyester fibers. The company’s Reju Polyester™ is expected to have a carbon footprint that is 50% lower than virgin polyester and can be regenerated indefinitely. Materials collected from Cibutex member companies will be processed at the upcoming Regeneration Hub Zero in Frankfurt, Germany, which is anticipated to be operational by 2025, along with future Reju Regeneration Hubs.
Cibutex connects businesses in the textile services sector, focusing on the collection and processing of used commercial textiles. This initiative paves the way for reintegrating these materials into the manufacturing cycle, ultimately closing the loop in commercial textile production. By incorporating Reju's proprietary regeneration technology, the partnership ensures traceability and scalability, essential components for achieving a truly sustainable circular textile supply chain.
Patrik Frisk, CEO of Reju, remarked, “Reju and Cibutex are joining forces to lead the charge in creating a circular ecosystem for commercial textiles. The unique approach taken by Cibutex to mobilize its member companies aligns perfectly with Reju’s mission of large-scale textile regeneration. Together, we are addressing the issue of textile waste, building infrastructure that rescues valuable resources from landfills and incineration while reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.”
Jan Lamme, CEO of Cibutex, added, “Our association was founded on the principle of supporting a circular textile economy. Through our partnership with Reju, we aim to return used commercial textiles to the production cycle to a greater extent, achieving the traceability and quality necessary for a sustainable future. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in realizing our vision of a closed supply chain in the textile services sector.”
The joint efforts of Reju and Cibutex highlight the power of collaboration and innovation in tackling the escalating challenge of textile waste. With the European Union's mandate for textile waste collection set to take effect this year, alongside impending regulations in the United States, this initiative comes at a crucial moment to provide scalable solutions that meet regulatory demands and contribute to a more sustainable future.
