Exploring Artistic Expression Through Recycled Materials: A Unique Workshop Exhibition in Fuchu, Tokyo

Discover the Intersection of Art and Sustainability in Fuchu

From June 21 to June 30, 2025, Fuchu, Tokyo, will transform into a vibrant hub of creativity and sustainability during the exhibition of the fourth installment of Raccolta, featuring the visionary work of modern artist Saki Chikaraishi. This remarkable event celebrates the innovative repurposing of abandoned materials sourced from local businesses, allowing both adults and children to engage in artistic expression through workshops that provoke new perspectives.

The Concept of Raccolta

Raccolta, a platform initiated by the NPO Artist Collective Fuchu (ACF), is aimed at promoting creativity through the use of discarded materials. For this exhibition, participants will immerse themselves in an environment filled with potential, creatively exploring what these materials can become. Chikaraishi’s workshop entitled "Gravity - Pulling the Galaxy from Sato Tailoring School" invites attendees to delve into the depths of creativity, using the rich history and materials of the now-closed Sato Tailoring School. Through this lens, participants will interact with the textures and stories behind fabrics that have accumulated over time, contributing to the creation of unique, cosmic-themed sculptures.

Workshop Details

The workshops are designed to foster a learning environment, encouraging participants to consider everyday objects from fresh perspectives. The experience will provoke thought and stimulate creativity, pushing the boundaries of conventional art-making. Attendees will collaborate in the creation of large-scale art pieces, culminating in a display of their collective achievements during the exhibition.

Saki Chikaraishi emphasizes a special connection with Sato Tailoring School, describing it as a "microcosm" filled with the passion and life of its founder, Shizuko. The workshop will blend artistry and nostalgia as participants navigate the sensory experiences associated with the textiles, buttons, and threads within the gallery space.
