Hyundai Shines in J.D. Power's 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study

Hyundai Motor America has once again demonstrated its commitment to quality by achieving notable rankings in the J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). For the second consecutive year, Hyundai secured the second position among mass-market brands and was ranked third overall in the automotive industry. This accomplishment reflects the relentless focus and collaboration across the entire Hyundai Motor Group team.

A Stellar Year for the Santa Cruz

One of the standout models in Hyundai's lineup, the Santa Cruz, has been recognized as the top midsize pickup for the second straight year. This recognition is a testament to the vehicle's remarkable design, versatility, and robust quality, showcasing how Hyundai has set a bar in innovation and customer satisfaction. As a unique blend of artful design and purpose-driven functionality, the Santa Cruz is engineered to excel both in urban environments and rugged terrains.

Barry Ratzlaff, Chief Customer Officer of Hyundai Motor North America, attributed this success to the entire team’s dedication to excellence and innovation. He noted, “Santa Cruz leading the midsize pickup segment for the second year in a row is no coincidence; this vehicle was designed to be different.” This model not only garners attention with its bold styling but also excels in areas that matter most to drivers—quality and reliable performance.

Improved Rankings Across the Lineup

In addition to the Santa Cruz, Hyundai's Sonata achieved second place in the midsize car segment, while the Elantra and Palisade secured third positions in the compact car and upper midsize SUV segments, respectively. These accomplishments underscore the consistent quality and appeal of Hyundai’s product offerings, reinforcing the brand’s overall reputation in the automotive marketplace.

Insights from the J.D. Power Study

The J.D. Power 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study is based on feedback from 92,694 new vehicle owners and lessors, surveyed early in their ownership journey. With a history spanning 39 years, this study evaluates initial quality by measuring the number of issues experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days. A lower score signifies a higher quality, making Hyundai's rankings particularly impressive.

Conducted from June 2024 through May 2025, the IQS study categorizes responses into ten key areas including infotainment, driving experience, exterior, and many more. These insights provide automakers with valuable data to identify potential problems and enhance product offerings further.
