Kroger Health Expands Prescription Drug Safety Program
In recent news,
Kroger Health, the health care segment of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), has announced a significant expansion of its
Prescription Drug Safety program. This initiative is aimed at educating high school students about the dangers surrounding the misuse of prescription drugs and will now reach more than 470 schools across the United States.
The program, titled
Prescription Drug Safety: Know the Truth, is part of Kroger Health's ongoing commitment to enhance community health by promoting the safe use, storage, and disposal of prescription medications. The initiative is offered at no cost to middle and high schools due to Kroger's collaboration with
EVERFI, a recognized leader in supplying educational resources with a focus on societal impact.
Kroger Health and EVERFI have been partners since 2018, and their combined efforts have already reached over
170,000 students. The educational content targets critical areas concerning prescription medications, including the science of addiction, dangers related to misuse, and practical tips for storing and disposing of medications properly.
Colleen Lindholz, President of Kroger Health, emphasized the program's importance by stating, "We have all seen the real dangers that come with misuse of prescription drugs. By expanding this program with EVERFI, we are continuing to help young people recognize the warning signs of drug abuse and misuse."
Alice Lee, head of Customer Experience and K-12 at EVERFI, commented on the societal benefits of this initiative, saying, "Empowering our youth with knowledge about prescription drug safety is not just a necessity but a catalyst for transforming communities. By equipping young people with the tools to make sound decisions, we are laying the foundation for a future where the dangers of drug misuse are drastically reduced, fostering healthier and more resilient communities."
The expansion of this program comes at a crucial time, as prescription drug misuse remains a growing concern across the United States. With more students being educated about the associated risks and safe practices, Kroger Health aims to empower a new generation to make informed decisions regarding medication use and health safety.
Kroger Health operates over 2,200 pharmacies in 35 states, providing healthcare services to
more than 17 million patients annually. Their healthcare practitioners, numbering around
24,000, include pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and registered dietitians and technicians.
In addition to offering medication management, Kroger Health is committed to a holistic approach to healthcare that includes nutritional guidance, promoting the concept of "food as medicine" to help prevent diseases before they start.
With this educational initiative, Kroger Health, alongside EVERFI, is making strides towards addressing the pressing challenges associated with prescription drug misuse and enhancing the well-being of communities across the nation. For more information about their services, you can visit
