Experience Cutting-Edge Science: MOF at the Human Academy Junior Science Festival

Experience the Thrilling World of MOF at the Science Festival

On May 31, 2026, the Human Academy Junior will host an exciting hybrid science festival titled "Experience! The World of Nobel Prize Chemistry" at the Shibuya Fukas (Tokyo) and online. This special event showcases the groundbreaking scientific research of Professor Suguru Kitagawa, who is slated to receive the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2025. The festival aims to ignite curiosity and fascination for science among children through hands-on activities involving MOF (Metal-Organic Frameworks), a groundbreaking material composed of metal ions and organic molecules.

Special Guests and Engaging Activities

The festival will feature Dr. Masakazu Higuchi, a prominent associate professor at Kyoto University's Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) and a key advisor in Professor Kitagawa's research. Participants will have the unique opportunity to hear insights and stories directly tied to the Nobel Ceremony in Stockholm—a rare chance to learn about the inner workings of world-renowned scientific accomplishments.

The event will be divided into two main parts:

1. Quiz Challenge: Understanding the Nobel Prize and MOF
In this interactive segment, children will learn through fun quizzes about what the Nobel Prize represents and the significance of MOF in contemporary science. Here, they will gain insights into the award ceremony and the impact of Nobel-level research on society.
2. Hands-On Experiment: Recreating MOF
In this practical session, participants will engage in a hands-on experiment using everyday materials to recreate MOF, allowing them to appreciate its unique properties. Children attending the event will create and take home models of MOF as tangible research outcomes, expanding their scientific understanding and sparking a long-term interest in science.

A National Initiative for Science Education

This festival aligns with a broader initiative by the Japanese Ministry of Education, aimed at increasing the number of science and technology graduates to foster future innovators. The ministry is committed to raising the percentage of science students in universities and vocational schools from 35% to about 50% over the next decade. By engaging children in exciting scientific experiences, this event supports such initiatives and encourages them to think critically and creatively about science

Following the event, participants will have the chance to offer reports on their experiments to enter into a drawing for special prizes, making this experience not just educational but also memorable.

The Human Academy Group, founded in 1985, operates with the vision of developing diverse human resources across various domains, including education and technology. Our mission goes beyond simple education, focusing on creating social contributions and solutions through innovative approaches to learning.

This exciting event will take place on May 31, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM, at the Shibuya Fukas 16th floor. Participation is free, with registration open from April 10 to April 24, 2026. Join us in fostering the next generation of scientists and thinkers, ensuring they have the tools and inspiration to tackle tomorrow's challenges!
