New Tool Empowers Ohio Residents to Access and Compare Hospital Prices

Empowering Patients: The Ohio Hospital Price Finder Tool

On December 10, 2025, PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) unveiled the Ohio Hospital Price Finder Tool, a ground-breaking online platform designed to empower Ohio residents with comprehensive access to hospital prices. This initiative aims to enhance price transparency in healthcare, allowing patients to make informed decisions regarding their medical expenses. The newly introduced tool not only facilitates price comparisons across various hospitals but also serves to mitigate unexpected medical costs.

This development comes in response to the recent enactment of Ohio House Bill 173, which positions Ohio as the pioneering state to mandate hospitals to disclose upfront pricing. With the passage of this bipartisan bill, signed by Governor Mike DeWine, Ohioans can now access critical pricing information for their medical procedures. The law reflects a significant shift towards transparency in the healthcare system, previously lacking in clear cost disclosure.

Cynthia Fisher, the founder and chairperson of PRA, stated, “With the Ohio Hospital Price Finder, Ohio patients will be able to take full advantage of the state’s new price transparency law with the ability to see and compare prices upfront.” This sentiment underscores the importance of the tool in helping patients navigate the often opaque landscape of healthcare pricing.

The Ohio Hospital Price Finder Tool allows patients, healthcare consumers, employers, and researchers to search for hospital prices by procedure and code at OhioHospitalPrices.org. This resource not only simplifies the price comparison process but also encourages patients to seek value for their healthcare dollar.

For many Ohioans, like Norton resident Tracey Owens, having access to such a tool could have dramatically altered their healthcare decisions. After incurring $17,000 for a surgical procedure, she later discovered that the same procedure was available at several other hospitals for approximately $8,000.
