In an exciting move towards technological innovation, Ollo Inc., headquartered in Bunkyo, Tokyo, has officially started a field trial of its work analysis AI, Ollo Factory, at the manufacturing facility of JR East Group's J-TREC. This initiative is part of the JR East Startup Program, which aims to cultivate new business and service proposals utilizing the company's extensive resources and information within the railway and station sectors.

What is the JR East Startup Program?

The JR East Startup Program serves as an incubator for entrepreneurial ideas, allowing various proposals from startups and innovators to be refined and implemented. Launched in 2017, this program has successfully adopted 149 proposals, even winning prestigious awards such as the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award and the Minister of the Environment Award in Japan's Open Innovation Awards between 2018 and 2020.

In the 2025 Autumn program, themes like Regional Co-Creation, Digital Co-Creation, and Earth Co-Creation (SDGs) guided proposals, leading to the selection of 7 projects from a total of 191 submissions.

Ollo's Involvement in the Program

The goal of this initiative is digital co-creation. By enabling users to simply upload work videos, Ollo Factory automates the creation of standard operating procedures, training for new employees, and error prevention in manufacturing tasks. This specialized AI not only analyzes individual tasks but also integrates multiple camera feeds to evaluate collaborative work among several individuals, thereby enhancing manufacturing techniques and productivity. This implementation at JR East's J-TREC facility commenced in April 2026.

Upcoming Event: 13th JR East Startup Program DEMO DAY

An event to showcase the results of the innovations will be held on June 4, 2026. The DEMO DAY includes a Pitch Stage, where selected companies will pitch their co-creation plans, and an Exhibition Stage featuring collaborations between the chosen firms and other businesses under the JTOS (JR East-Transversal Social Implementation Consortium) initiative. JTOS promotes co-creation and social implementation by leveraging the resources of four partnered corporations: JR East Startup, Tokyu, Odakyu Electric Railway, and Seibu Holdings.
